Due to the scarcity and inconsistancy of the info on the subject I would like to gather any info 50bmg precision rifle related in one thread. I have found it is difficult to seperate the m2 type data from the match rifle data out there.

I can edit data into the first post for easier reading...

1. 50BMG rifles shooting surplus BMG ammo or improperly sized ammo(for the rifle chamber) can experience hang fires/misfires. Due to the type of primer or the action binding the sear the detonation could be delayed or absent. It is critical that the operator understand the proper immediate action drills for their particular rifle to avoid death or serious injury.

a) Military primers can be less sensitive by design IOT prevent slam fires
b) Some Surplus ammo has tar inside the neck which causes tight chambering. This tight chambering can cause binding of the sear. The sear can release if the bolt is opened turning the bolt into a projectile.

2. Properly re-loaded ammo and factory commercial ammo are as safe and reliable as in any other cartridge and and can provide excellent accuracy and long range wind resistant performance. The same rules apply as to any other cartridge

3. The 50BMG rifle has been replaced in many LEO/Military roles by smaller more man portable platforms in 338/300 calibers. The 50BMG as a precision rifle round offers many desirable characteristics if portability is less of an issue such as in civilian competition.

4. Popular re-loading powder are:

- H50bmg
- US869
-
-
-
5. Popular projectiles are:
- Hornady AMAX 750 grain
- lehigh solid match
- M33 pulled

yes for sure, item one can apply to any milsurp ammo. It is difficult to find as much precision rifle 50bmg data as compared to 308win and hopefully we can sticky a consolidated list of info on subjects like:

- accessories, loading, components, safety etc. Not to reinvent the wheel just consolidate info on a niche subject

Super

Another thread to discuss the .50 BMG.

I will erase my thread to be sure there is no ininconsistancy and confusion on the subject.

Would you be kind enough to explain to all of us what XM183C or XM183PD means

I forgot I have a 338 Lapua and a 300 Win Mag

Have a Nice Zombie Day

Claude please do not erase you thread dedicated to the .50 BMG

Would you rather a thread under PR or reloading? No need to have two threads if we can cover all aspects in one.

******* can a mod please join the two threads for us?

no, didn't see yours until after I had posted. lets get this one deleted and keep yours running. I'm just happy to see a 50bmg specific thread and I don't care where it is as long as it stays alive
