Setting up to reload some Winchester brass for my Tikka 22-250, as I'm hoping to go for wolf this fall I've decided on the 55 gr Nosler BT, but I would appreciate some input on type of primers and powder.

I'm currently shooting the Nosler 55 gr. BTs out of my 22-250 using Win 760 powder and CCI 200 primers. Varget and H380 seem to be two of the more popular powders for 22-250. I personally don't think that choice of primer is that important, and I almost always use CCI just because that's usually what I have on hand and can find easy. Some guys might choose a magnum primer for ball powder loads, but I haven't had any issues using regular large rifle primers and Win 760. I like the ball powders because the meter very consistently.

I think I would choose a diffrent bullet for wolf hunting, something like a hollow point with a thicker jacket on it, but that is just me.

X2 what ScottN says. I also just started loading for this caliber and H 380 or Varget were the suggested powders in all three of my manuals. I was going to go with Varget as it is supposed to be more temperature tolerant but Higginson's were out. I opted for H 380 instead and have been extremely pleased with the results and it is an easy powder to work with. Also tried Benchmark as I have 3/4's of a pound I want to get rid of but haven't found a load that will work with the 55gr. BT's yet. I also hope to use this caliber on predators - mainly coyotes but will not hesitate on a wolf either as from what I hear the BT's should be devastating performers but still fur friendly.

I would reach for Varget or RL15 first. If that didnt make for good results, I'd try a different bullet before I bother with a new fuel

this guy fell quite quickly to a well placed 55 grain Nosler BT (out of a 223 @ 75 yards).

Impact velocity was about 2950 f/s, the same as a 22-250 would land with @ 175 yards. BTW the bullet did exit :)
