55 gr vmax and 1:9 twist in 223

My 12fvss hated 55 gr bullets of any kind. with it's 1 in 9 twist, it really loves the 69 gr Sierras. Cannot believe the groups.
Almost the opposite for my 12fvss 1-9, 55 vmax with Benchmark or H322 group very well @ 100-300+ meters. The 69 HPBT or 75 amax always seem to produce a quarter to half MOA larger groups. To be fair I have done a lot more load work on the 55's, probably pushed a 1000 55s down this pipe so far, vs the 69 or 75s which would be a few hundred.

I tried the 75 gr bullets also with poor grouping, but my sons 112 Savage made almost one holes with them. Guess each gun will shoot its own preferences. Last group I shot with the 69s was .187 at 100 yards.
 
My 1:9 barrel group less than 1 MOA at a 100 yards with bullets from 45gr - 69gr
I Tried them all up to 75Gr and always hit paper even at 200M
 
It's all about the sweet spot (internal ballistics with respect to barrel node/harmonics) and also the quality of projectile. FMJ's are built / made to a looser tolerance versus the match bullets with their uniformity (lead, copper, polymer tip, etc). Then one finds some varmint specific bullets that THINK they are match bullets and behave really :eek: surprisingly well.

I knew some Precision Rifle (read: sniper) shooters who loaded up the Nosler Ballistic tip bullets in their .308's and had stupendous results out to 800 meters.

I just love how the Vmax family of bullets group. I blame myself if I cannot group them into 3/4" regularly, this is out of my 18.5" cut down SPS M700 .223 groundhog gitter.

My 1:8 twist tikka varmint .223 has cranked out sub 1/4" groups @100yd and nailed clay pigeons @ 560yd with H335 and 50 grain V-max doing 3300fps.
 
I backed up to 100 yds and tried my test loads using H335 and Hornady 55gr Vmax. Nothing on the paper!! I couldn't see any hits anywhere. Moved back to 50 yd and nothing on paper again. I blamed the scope and returned home. Quick tests show crosshairs tracking ok bore sighted looked ok so now I thinking by bullets were flying apart due to fast twist rate of 1-9.

I would think at those yds you would have lots of holes in the target if the bullet were centrificialy destructing.totaly different load totaly different barrel harmonics is my opinion resight them at 50 and see how they shoot.if you don't find a scope problem.
 
My 223 Ackley has a 1:9 twist, runs 40 gr Ballistic Tips at 3900+ fps, and shoots well under an inch.

Rotational velocity is (3900X12) / 9 = 5200 revs per second, that's 312,000 rpm, and they hold together. :)
