I have a bunch (many hundreds) of .224" 55 grain V-Max bullets. And similar quality of 223 Rem brass. So I would be interested to hear what powders have you tried with this bullet in this cartridge. Which powder did you decide gives you the best accuracy? The rifle is a Savage PC-10 with 20" barrel, 1:9" twist.

That’s my go-to bullet, has shot well in 1:9 and 1:8 barrels. 24gr Benchmark, Win SRP, Win brass, 2.25” COL.

Me too. I use that booolit in both 223 and 22-250.

You will never be disappointed with these boooolits on varmints!

Cheers, Barney.

Maybe it would be easier to answer your question if we knew which powders you have on hand and whether your cases are commercial or milsurp.

There are several excellent powders that are available for those excellent bullets.

Some powders work much better in commercial cases than they do in milsurp cases.

I find the old standby BLC-2 works really well with those bullets in IVI cases, but not as well in commercial cases.

H380/H335 and IMR3031 work better in commercial cases.

Then there is a whole new spectrum of modern powders such as Benchmark, Exterminator and CFE223

I see posters are using Benchmark, IMR 3031, H335 powder. No one has mentioned a powder that they tried, and chose not to use (BLC-2 in commercial cases, excepted). 55 grain V-Max, .223 Remington, 1:9" twist, 20" barrel.

Not looking for loading suggestions - I am looking for your experience and choice of powder that you use, based on powders that you have tried.

My accuracy load in .223Rem using the 55gr VMAX is 26.8gr Varget. No problem getting 0.75MOA 5-shot groups or better with this load in my Ruger American Ranch (1:8 twist). I just love this bullet as well as it's brother, the 50gr VMAX. I also use these bullets with great success in .222Rem and 22-250.

I've tried Varget, IMR 3031, H4895 and H335. I settled on H335 because I achieved the best accuracy (hair splitting really) with three different bullets in two different rifles. The other powders are not a bad choice in my experience. H335 did just a little bit better. YMMV.

I do have minimum 2 pounds Varget, IMR 3031, and H4895 - even those three are reduction from 20 possibilities shown in Hornady 9th manual - page 152 !!! I had used Benchmark in previous loads - different bullets, though.

Got a screaming deal on about five pounds of 335, so, I use that.

If I had more patience to spend time at a bench, I could tell ya how they shoot, but, lots of gophers, a few coyotes and a couple deer later... Works for me.

I've used all of the powders in my previous post with good results, other than Exterminator.

The 223Rem cartridge isn't fussy, just like the 30-06
