Hi I am looking for load data for a 550 grain cast has checked boolit in my guide gun. I been able to find data for h322 but i am hoping for data for imr 3031,h4227, or another powder as I don't have any h322 left. I've been searching the Internet but haven't found anything... Yes I am somewhat computer illiterate so yes I may have missed. I've checked marlinowners , cast boolit, cast pics. No luck so far. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't checked but the ACCURATERELOADING site 'may' be of some help.

UPDATE:Checked and didn't find exactly what you were looking for. I have some 550gr cast I 'play' with in a 458WM so I tried something and this may be of more help. I googled
- 550gr 45-70 loadsIn the list of items that come up, the 2nd source listed is
- What powder for a 45-70 550gr cast GS bulletLooks like there might be some info there might be of help to you.

I did end up finding some data for 3031 using the 550 gr boolit. 34-39 gr of imr 3031.

Now I am looking for 530 gr. Seems to be a little more info on that one. Hopefully I find what I am looking for. 😎
Thanks guy for the help so far appreciate it.

530-535gr is a pretty common weight for long range 45-70 shooting so that makes sense.

I assume a huge portion of these bullets are inside the case? My Guide Gun doesn't like OAL's much past the normal flat nosed stuff. I have some long 500gr bullets I cast that chamber and fire if single-fed through the ejection port but wont cycle from the tube to the chamber; they get stuck on the elevator and I have to take the mag apart to get them out through the front. Even though they chamber they wont eject if not fired so if I need to get a live round out, I need to pull the bolt out. Can get em in through the ejection port but once the rim is caught on the bolt face they wont come back out that way.
I tried it once, found it way too impractical, and stuck to regular stubby bullets. The big ones only go in my single-shot now.

I found data in Lyman's 44th edition. Data for 1886 win 45/70 gov.
552 gas checked cast.
IMR 4227 23 grs
IMR 3031 34 grs
IMR 4198 26 grs

All are suggested starting points. This edition dates 1967.

There is also data for springfield loads.

Thank you. I found data for the 525-530 gr on bear tooth bullets site also. Yeah I also found that the load data for these extra heavy boolits pretty much match trapdoor and old rifle load data. Since so much of the boolit is in the case it brings the pressure up drastically. Again thank you for all the help everyone. Much appreciated. Gonna go test these loads out right away and hope for the best. I'll be back in a few hours with range reports.

Ok so I shot the test loads today. They worked great. No pressure signs. No split cases. They cycle very well no hick ups at all. Overall very great test. So now to work the load up a little bit more. Need more thump. But damn these thing thump great. 😎😎

Shoot 40 gr 322 in my handi rifle! 525 gr hard cast
It's accurate but dammmmmmm my poor shoulder lol
If you want a gd p linker load the Lyman postell bullet
Which is like a giant spitzer almost nuclear warhead looking bullet
Lol, in my handi Gun, 31 gr SR4759, very accurate
Velocity nowhere's near super sonic buuuutttt tears a ragged hole
At 100 yards

A lot of the long range bullets won't sit any deeper in the case than a 405gr bullet because a lot of the length is in the nose. Not so much with the heavy flat nosed bullets for lever guns like the 500gr RCBS of course.

Chris.
