Started with my new 550 and have following questions to the community.

I noticed that for 9 mm it seats primers to the 0.001", while ideal depth should be ~0.004". Does anybody have same behavior ? Is it a problem ?

And do you remove powder from powder measure after reloading session ?

Thanks !

I don't think I have actually measured mine, but I check to see that they are recessed...deeper than being than flush. Never had a slam fire from one, and that's after thousands of rounds. As far as removing the powder measure, I think we are supposed to now.. but i don't. I have 3 tool heads, 9mm/.40 and .223 I leave the spare ones on their stands with powder in them, or if I know I wont be reloading for a while I will remove it.
I think I got my 550 back in 2004, haven't had any issues with it.

"...Is it a problem...". There's no measuring primer seating depth. Did you clean the pockets? As long as the primer is even with the case head or a wee bit blow you're fine. Whoever told you there was an ideal depth is daft.
"...remove powder from powder measure..." Put it back in the can. Unless you're going back at it tomorrow.

No, I didn't clean-up after depriming, and not sure if this is practical for volume reloading. May be try couple and see would it make difference.
Data is from Lynman manual, it states 0.003"-0.005" for primer.

I have two 550's and have loaded tens of thousands of rounds. Some times I have cleaned the primer pockets and sometimes I have not. Never have I measured the primer seating depth, never have I had a primer not seat flush (although have crushed a few - but that is a different problem). Never have had a fail to fire or slam fire. If they are seating flush that is al you should concern yourself with. Even on my single stage machines this has never been a consideration.
