Just wondering what the OAL should be? My first AR15 is in the mail, and just wanna have some ammo loaded, so I'm ready when it arrives. It's a Colt 6920.

Or if it has a cannelure groove load so that it is centered on the case neck. Lots of factory 55gr is way shorter than the max length for .223rem.

That said lots of factory 55gr also groups rather poorly.

I would also just use the cannelure as a guide. Seating 55 grain FMJ bullets to full magazine length may not leave much of the bearing surface inside the case neck.

Most other bullet types I would seat to magazine length.

+1 for centered on the cannelure.

I keep the case lengths the same or very close, and then load the projectile to the center of the groove.

I also use a Lee factory crimp die. My thoughts are that there is no way I can reliably load a 55grain slug to be close enough to the lands, so I may as well make them have nearly identical pressures when the bullet leaves the case.
