well surprisingly there has been better responce in this thread for my ammo pics, and im very happy to share them with you guys, so i will continue to post what i have, and aquire. rite now, i am doing a bit of a rimfire block, and today ive decided to show a 56-46 spencer. aka No.46, or 46/100cal. it was introduced in 1866 for sporting, it only lasted till just after the first world war.(my info comes from: cartridges of the world 11th edition, by frank c barnes. pg 486)

Hey, thanks for posting that. I've never seen one before. Those grooves suggest it was an outside lubed, heeled bullet?? By the way, since I know sweet tweet about these crazy bullets, it would be very interesting if you would also post the weight of the bullet and its muzzle velocity, if you have that info.

This is a beautiful round! It's amazing how some of these things were phased out over the years only to be replaced by a horde of other off the wall calibers (and it is a sad thing, because nowadays many interesting guns of the past can no longer be shot due to long discontinued ammo).

as a matter of fact, i did tumble it to clean it, i collect for historic value, not monitary value, so in any case that i can tumble with no damage to the case i will. i do nnot use regular media however, i use a special blend i whipped up at home, which is not as fast but less agressive. it actually isnt as clean as it was when i put it in to my display case, because i have a coat of copper polish on it. before it goes in to my case, i polish and buff them.

i actually really enjoy your feed back, and apprecitae your interest and comments. if anyone has anything interesting, or just plain odd, that you are willing to sell, or trade for that matter, you can trust that im not just a guy looking to slap together a display to impress his buddies. so feel free to pm me if you have.
 
From talking to an advanced gun and ctg collector it appears that the Canadian Peabodys were issued with 56-50 Spencer ammo. This would be similar to fireing 22S in a 22LR. I wondered for years why the 50-60 was so scarce since the majority of the arms made in that calibre came to Canada.
