Glockenshpiel,
Here is my humble opinion for what it is worth.
I believe that government rules and regulations in general have become way too complicated , onerous, and nebulous for law enforcers to enforce as the enforcers themselves are every bit as confused as we may be.
How many dozens of times have we seen debates here on Gunnutz re interpretations of rules, only to have a member call the RCMP, as an example, and find out the people they were trying to extract correct information from were even more confused.
What about the recent fiasco with the 25 round magazines for the S&W 15-22. Hundreds, if not thousands, of these mags were LEGALLY bought by good law-abiding folks, only to discover that with the stroke of an RCMP pen, the mags have become prohibited. Now those same law-abiding folks are instant criminals and could potentially face jail sentences. Some of these folks are not even aware of these changes, as the RCMP or CFOs have not even sent them letters. Would these folks, unaware that they had to turn in mags that were legally bought ,be charged. I do not believe they would, if they acted in good faith.
At the end of the day, common sense must rule the day and no government has the political will to attempt to turn a law-abider into an instant criminal because no one could interpret or understand complex and confusing laws. What has happened to good old common sense.
As a tax-paying, law-abiding citizen, I for one will conduct myself in a reasonable fashion and obey the laws to the very best of my ability. If I have the legal ability to purchase 7 pounds of powder or 1000 primers, I refuse to look over my shoulder and live in fear that what I did is suddenly illegal.
Despite all attempts by government and the anti-gun lobby to take away our rights over the DECADES, we still have our firearms.
This endless debate and constantly living in fear and defeatist attitudes is a monumental waste of time. i would rather spend my time enjoying my rights , and I am of the profound belief that I will enjoy these rights for the rest of my life and so will all of us law-abiders.
