I am looking for a decent scope for my 700 in 223. mainly going to be my gopher getter. Is there any problem with putting a larger obective lense(56mm) or is it better to keep it smaller(40 or 50mm)? Considering the falcon menace 4.5x18x56
With a scope like that you probably won't even be able to keep your cheek on the stock of your rifle when you shoot. Most varmint shooting is done during the day, you would probably find a 40mm scope to be the most practical. JMO though.
Lots of people using that same scope for gophers. If you are concerned about height we have the new 5.5-25x50FFP, but it will still require the same size rings. We also have the 4-14x44FFP that will mount up with TPS low rings with no clearance issues. The 50 and 56 would likely require medium rings.
