Hi everyone,

Thinking of getting a top of the line tactical scope and I have to make up my mind on one of these 2 scopes....

- Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 4.5-27x56mm
- Nightforce B.E.A.S.T. 5-25x56mm

Do any of you guys have experience with those 2 scopes and if so what are your thoughts.

Thanks

Both of these scopes have not been delivered to dealers yet so you're not going to get many first hand opinions on them.

I can tell you they are both impressive scopes in their own right. I was very impressed with the Vortex HD2 and considering what it's street price is likely to be, I would give it a very serious look when it comes out in a few months. IMO it will be the best buy in LR optics out there.

The Beast is also very nice but at $1000 more (estimated) and the goofy throw lever fine adjustment ala Unertl 10x I'm not sure I'd spend that much more money for one. Funny thing is they will be a bargain compared to the S&B 5-25 it was designed to compete directly against.

not really, iv already been after one... 3975 after tax + shipping... which puts them almost identical to the SB line up

You might want to look at a bushnell XRS 4.5-30x50, at only $2400 or less you get pretty good value for your money. With FFP, 34mm tube, locking turrets, H-59 reticle and zero stop its kind of what I'm leaning towards, plus its out unlike the other two.

well I had the chance of trying one the (Razor HD Gen 2) and let me tell you it is just awesome. I've never seen such clarity in a scope at 27x.

and the good thing with Vortex is their unlimited warranty. I could basically kill a moose by hitting him with the scope in my hand and Vortex would replace it no questions asked.

I was fortunate to attend SHOT and see these scopes in person. I agree that the Vortex is very robustly built (at least on the outside :) ). IIRC somewhere in the 3lb weight range. I am not a Vortex fan but this new scope has really piqued my interest.

Looking forward to receiving these - they should be in my store within two weeks. I was very impressed with what I saw of them at SHOT.

The tracking on the XRS is dead on too. I put my through its pace and always returned to zero. I was waiting for the Vortex Gen II to get here, but with that price tag, I will pick up another Bushnell. Very impressed.

I saw the new vortex gen II at wholesales sport, 2 weekend ago, when the rep went through, and I can tell you that the new genII tube are not made of aluminum, it made of lead, very heavy, glass seem to be very nice, but it hard to tell indoor. it would be very hard to compare to S$B by just looking at indoor, you need to have both side by side and compared at a longer distant, I really doubted if it on par with S&B, with the price that it asking, I would rather pay a few more hundred of dollar and get a S&B. I did ask the rep how many MOA that model had for elevation, it got 60moa only.

Check out Sightron also- EXCELLENT optical quality on the one I just got from Mystic. And while I haven't used one yet, one dealer I spoke with said to stay away from the B.E.A.S.T- apparently NF has been having a hell of a time with them.

from the Vortex website... total elevation = 114 moa and a 34 mm single-piece aircraft-grade aluminum tube

That true, I ask him to rotate the elevation knob on the scope, and there is 2 roration, only 13 moa each rotation.

One good rule to follow is that dont buy anything that are brand new, not proven .
