577 Snider

I Know That, The Sabot Is A 50 Cal Slug Mounted In A Plastic Sleeve, Designed To Go Faster And Hit Harder. Just Like The 12 Ga Sabot Slugs For Shot Guns. Its The Powder Charge I'mlookingfor.

I'm going to stay clear of this one...except i don't want to see anyone get hurt....the .577 Snyder should only be loaded with Black Powder and then the case should be full except for the .58 call round ball or bullet(minie type)...it may be possible to use AA5744, SR4759, or Trail Boss but this is neither the cartridge or the gun to "hot rod" things, IMHO.......for Snider loading info i would suggest you contact "Dantforth" on this site, he knows the Snider!!!

Even though I've shot the Snider quite a bit with smokeless, and even shot a sabot made up with a 24 guage shot cup holding a 54 cal slug, this is a situation where I'm not in my comfort zone sharing loads.

I recommend you poke around the British Militaria Board at:

http://p223.ezboard.com/bbritishmilitariaforums

specifically the Snider-Enfield Forum and see what you might scare up.

Ok, I Found A Loading!! 577 Snider

Let Me Know Your Opinion Of This Load; 31 Grs Of Imr4198 ,gives A 3 Inch Group At 100 Yards . 1380 Feet Per Sec.at Muzzle.bullet 350 Grs. Thanks, Guys.

That is a load stated in my 3rd Edition CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD. I don't know anything about that load but the same book says 28 gauge brass shotshells can be used for cases inthe .577, but there must be a misprint because it is " 24 GAUGE BRASS shotshells " that can be made into .577 Snider cases.

I'm surprised at those velocities. I used the same amount of three faster powders (SR4759, AA5744 and H4227) and got quite a bit lower MV's - about 1000 fps, albeit with a 480 gr slug. 18.0 grs of Unique pushed it to about 1150 fps which is a max load for that powder with that bullet IMO.

That's a very large bore and a cavernous cartridge. At the pressures you want to run in that gun, you will get plenty of unburnt powder with powders much slower than H4227 in my experience.
