Good evening all

I have a Snider Sporting rifle marked "J.C.& A. Lord. London Birmingham & Bombay" Built on a Mark ll action marked "Snider Patent" the five groove barrel carries black powder proofs Birmingham (1813-1904) and London (1868-1925). The stock is nicely finished - not reworked military. The barrel has a full length under rib with cleaning/ram rod - the bore excellent and the action is tight. A good shooter, it came without history. The multiple address suggests a retail outlet and I suspect Indian origin. I wonder if there are any more out there with background information.
Thanks
Ross

In the 1970s a surplus lot of arms including Sniders and Martinis was imported to North America from Nepal. Among them were JC&A LORD Snider sporters like yours. Lord was not a gunmaker but an import export business in Britain. Another lot of Nepal arms has been recently imported including Lord Sniders.

Hello Green
Thanks for the info. Despite its origin this rifle appears to be well made and is a good shooter - I will just bear in mind that its not an Enfield and keep loads on the light side.
Cheers
Ross

Ross, have you checked the forum which deals strictly with these rifles? It is "British Militaria Forums" at www.ezboard.com. I believe that if you try British Militaria on Google you will find it. Lots of specific info and some posts relating directly to the "Lord" rifles. Dave

Hi Dantforth
Info very much appreciated, will certainly look into that forum. Sorry for the delay in reply - out and about for Sunday Trap and Thunder Storm last night closed things down. Thanks Dave.
Regards
Ross
