A friend just showed me an old 1892 Enfield in 577 Snider that has been passed down in the family. He has some brass, a set of dies and a bullet mould although I don't recall what weight. I have a copy of Cartridges Of The World that has some spec's and reload info. I was wondering, does anyone out there have any additional reload info or loading experience I can pass on to him?

Thanks guys. In Cartridges Of The World, there are three Fg loads using 70 - 73grs using a 350gr, 450gr and 480gr lead bullets. Also listed are three loads using smokeless powder, IMR 4198, 30 - 31grs, with three bullets similar to those I've mentioned. If anyone has need, PM me your e-mail andI'll send a scan of the page. Thanks again.

I have been reloading and shooting the Snider for a number of years. I use black powder...FG only, and fill my cases to the neck so the seated bullet sits on a wad which tops the powder charge. I use a number of bullets but have found that a round ball at .590" shoots as well as anything especially in the slow twist long rifle. If I want to use a reduced load I just put the powder in ...lets say 55 grains...and then a 24 guage wad and then seat the round ball right down onto the wad. This leaves room for a dollup of black powder lube over top of the ball. I have also experimented with a duplex load with 6-8 grains of SR4759 under 70 grains of FG black. This load burns cleaner and leaves little fouling in the bore so it is not as necessary to clean between shots. I have two bullet moulds other than round ball...one at .590" and one in the traditional .577". The .577" isn't even worth trying as it is erratic to say the least. The .590" shoots as well as any I've tried....but I still prefer the round ball as it shoots better and kicks less. PM me with any further questions. Dave

Thanks Dave. I think my buddy plans on using the smokeless powder loads but I'll pass on your info as well. As I understand it, this particular rifle just came from your part of the country. Thanks again
