Hey!

Thinking of getting a 590 A1 20" (with the bayonet lug).
Anyone know if the ATI folding stock from a 500 / Maverick series will fold up over the ghost ring site?

THX!

A folding stock on a 20 inch barrelled gun? Not sure how many would have tried that. You'd get a much more shootable (folding stocks on 12 gauge shotguns aren't any fun, and ATI isn't great for ergos) system by simply getting a fixed stock and a 14 inch barrel.

Like he said , top folders are not real fun to shoot a lot.
Having said that, the ATI stock looks wide enough to fit around a GRS , I do know that a Choate top folder will just work with mossberg factory GRS , and the choate is built like a tank , very solid.
Another option to look at , if you want a folder , would be the Mesa stock adapter with a Matador arms sidewinder, add a magpul CTR stock with a limbsaver pad and crosshair recoil buffer, it's a lot easier on the body, if you shoot lots , but gets a little pricey to put together. Lol

Installed a Matador folding adapter, and Surefire pump. Now it's taking shape, just need to order a new Rear Dynamics sling and maybe paint.

As others have mentioned;

The ATI top-folder is not very nice to shoot. It's really only good at looking cool.

The ATI side-folding stocks are a much better option.

I had an anti top folder on my 1300 and honestly didnt find it that bad qith 3" slugs, it makes a nice streamline package to pull in and out of a scabbard something that side folders lack.

Don't know what the complaints are about, I have an ATI top folder on a maverick 88 security 18.5" and its fine to shoot. I do tend to keep it to 2 3/4 when using the pistol grip only and I'm mainly just plinking.
I'm looking to the 590 A1 20" for the bayonet lug and I find that the top folder is more out of the way than a side folder. I'm just not sure if there is enough space in the folding arm to cover the ghost ring site.
