590 vs 590A1 Take me to school on these

Want to pick up the 20" barreled 8+1 shot for IPSC matches.
590A1 has metal trigger guard and heavy barrel.
590 does not.

Some are defender models?

Mossberg site sucks.

This is what I would like. Kids said they will clean thier rooms for a year if I get this. lol

The 590a1 has the heavy barrel, which might get very heavy after prolonged shooting. However, it'll take a lot of abuse and still work.

Plastic safety and trigger guard on the 590 isn't a big deal. You can swap just the safety from plastic to metal if you want. Other than that, nothing really.

The heat shield will fit on the 590A1 ,but will take a little work because of the thicker barrel. remember to rap the barrel with a business card at the front band so as not to scratch the barrel when putting it on.

Plastic trigger isn't a big deal, it works alright for Glock, right?
On a side note, make 'em clean your room too. And make them pay for ammo.

Also, the 590a1 comes in 5+1 capacity models with ghost ring sites or beads, which will make a handy package. And if you want more capacity, you can add SJ Hardware extension to it.
