590A1 14" vs 18.5"

The 590 XS Sights front site is a poor fit on the Shockwave as the barrel diameter is a hair more then the longer 590s. I bent it out to make it work and it is functional, but will be replacing it with something else.

Is the lil strap on the forend that keeps you from shootin your hand off annoying? Do you really even need it?

I like the hougue fore stock's on a 590 but I prefer a Magpull stock for it's improved wrist angle, the Woox have a similar angle which in my opinion works well on the mossberg and shortens the distance to the trigger nicely.

I've been looking at the shorty. Then put on a foldable stock and mini shell adapter.
Anyone that wants to shoot mini shells wants to look at the 590S.

I have a 590S, and a 590 A1 with an adapter. Both are flawless in the warmer weather, the adapter not so good in cold weather, the polymer becomes a bit stiff, the shell will occasionally take a bounce and end up backwards, or standing up/down.

So far the 590S only let me down when the polymer bumper popped out. It was a bit of a chore to put it back, but it's stayed put since.

In defence of the adapter, seems to be good for 2 3/4" shells, they sit in that lifter like an 8mm in a controlled feed Mauser, actually have to give it a good shake to get out the shell without cycling it through the action.

Re., the strap, I took it off, not a major bother, but not really necessary in my mind. I'm more worried about blowing off one of my feet than my hand...and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Do you have the updated lifter installed from Defender tactical? If not, this should help.

Great read everyone, thanks for the input - I'd been eyeing a 14" for a while and this was just the push I needed.

As a plus, Bullseye has the 14" 590a1 for $850 taxes and shipped right now - the new model looks compelling but not at double the price!

No, and once the 590S is sold mini shells, and I will be parting ways. I'd sell the Defender Tactical adapter as well, but it's not that much of a problem to deal with unloading the gun, and I think it may improving feeding on 2 3/4" shells...not that it's been a problem.

I have the defender tactical adapter in all 3 of my 3 590's, I haven't had any issues yet but haven't done any colder weather shooting, I seen when the lifter came out, not sure I need it or not, but I might grab 3 anyways

14" arrived recently, first range visit left giant smiles on my face and I will have a hard time taking my 18" out over this!

I have a 590A1 with Marinecote finish. 18.5". MLOK forend, which I got so I can hang accessories like a flashlight on it, but I found having a two piece light (Streamlight HLX) with pressure pad on one side and the light on the other, really reduces usable fore end space to rack/pump the gun. I saw there was an all-in-one replacement fore end with integrated light but I haven't seen it as of late. I could have probably picked up a Mariner for cheap and just did away with the MLOK fore end.

I used to have a Shockwave 590 SPX - I didn't like the Raptor grip and I bought a second hand stock for it, but it just looked a bit goofy.

Look and feel wise, it's better (tang safety, buttpad) than my 870 (cross bolt safety, hard as a rock buttpad), but that's just my own opinion.
