So far I've taken my 590 out for a run about 4 times testing out the bayonet attachment with various bayonets.

I am firing 2 3/4 shells out of it, and I'd say "most of the time" the Bayonet ends up coming off during firing. Usually on the first shot.

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue. Kinda bothers me a bit that it is not reliable enough to stay attached during firing. Is it normal for the amount of recoil from a 12 gauge to allow the bayonet retention arms to let go?

I might add, all of them fit differently to the attachment. Some really tight, some super loose.

Bayonets used for test.

M9 Factory issue Mossburg (Cheap)
M9 Buck (Expensive)
M7 (Old Issued type)
Bayonet 2000 (Same as issued)

I've never tried it, but you're the first complaint I've seen. Any videos or reports I have seen have been positive. Is there a chance your not engaging the mount properly?

Nice setup, is your sling mounted to the fore stock? My shottie is similar except I used a magpul barrel clamp with a quick disconnect. Not a big fan of the sling on the pump.

It's always positive engagement on the bayonet. No problems there.

Sling is mounted to a MAGPUL barrel clamp just aft of the front sight. I can't stand things getting in the way of operating the mechanism or the normal operation of the firearm. Only thing I don't like about the clamp is that it prevents you from removing the barrel if you need to, unless you bring the tool with you. A big no no in my book, for practical use but it's the lesser of a problem for typical range use. That being said....I might remove it and go with a traditional 2 point sling. I did have a failure to extract recently (Yes with a dual extractor 590) with some cheap crappy older reloaded 12 gauge shells that someone made. (Not me)I blame the ammo, but I still see the advantage of removing the barrel if you need to. Other then that, this set up is quite impressive and fun to shoot. I'm experimenting with some 870's right now, but the 590 is still front and centre.

Mine has popped off on both the 20" barrel 590A1s ive had. Quite honestly I dont have much use for a bayonet anyhow, I always thought it was bit gimmicky. It came with a 590A1 SPX and I didnt even know it was included.

Take a picture up close of it affixed to the shotgun.

I've been digging around and there are reports of length issues between shotgun and mossberg, but not much for it fastening insecure/ falling off while shooting. I'm curious to see how the sling mount may interfere.

That sucks. I've got a similar setup as you; 590A1 SPX w/ Magpul furniture. Next time I take it out I'll try firing it with the bayonet attached.

The Bayonet feature has always been something I've liked on my Mil-Spec firearms. Doesn't Canadian Tire refer to them as an accessory mount? Don't underestimate the bayonet's intended use. As a dual-purpose arm it adds functionality and is strictly a close-quarter combat or last-resort defensive weapon as it was intended. You're right, there are not as many uses for it on a civilian firing range, but it sure makes a great "Firearm Range Rack accessory" by being able to stick your gun nose down in the ground during lull times in firing. Isn't that what everyone uses a bayonet for? :shotgun:

However, if it is included on a barrel it should be working as advertised. IF it were ever to be used in "real world situation", I'd like to know that it would not inadvertently decide to leave the barrel after being poked somewhere questionable, and end up being offered as a "gift" of good faith.

The bayonet is to be fixed after you fire your last shotshell ;-)

The specification of any weapon I was issued that had the option of mounting a bayonet required that it be able to be fired whilst the bayonet was mounted with the reasonable expectation that said bayonet remain mounted after firing.

Having said that, I have seen it happen with the shotties with bayonet mounted. Almost every time we ran the M590A1 SPX with the bayonet on during valuations we found that the bayonet would pop off within four rounds.

I find the fit slightly loose when the bayonet is attached. Is your bayonet falling off because it is loose?
I usually back off the mag cap, less than one turn, to tighten the fit.

I had an SPX with the ontario knives M9 bayonet. It would pop off after 5-6 rounds of 3" 1600fps++ buck/slug.
It was fine for the S&B low recoil buck and slug (and 7.5/8 target rounds), but for the bigger stuff it would eventually go flying off.
