590A1 mag tube help

You have more issues to consider than just the magazine length. The 500 holds the barrel in place with a bolt that threads into the end of the magazine tube. The 590 uses a ring attached to the underside of the barrel, that slides over the magazine tube and is held in place, not by a bolt, but by the magazine cap. In both models, the magazine length is critical for the attachment of the barrel. If you want a shorter magazine tube, you will have to get a different barrel, which might be a gunsmith situation, rather than something you can just purchase and spin on.

Ok thanks, my plan is to try a 835 barrel. Apparently they bolt right a 5 rounds 590. But after what you just said I am pretty sure now that a 5 round 590 tube is the only way to go.

Going to be a royal pain in the "you know where", swapping the mag tube out every time you want to change the barrel. You can pick up a new Mossberg with a hunting barrel for about $350. Do yourself a favor and spend the few extra bucks and get another complete gun. Probably not much more money and definitely less headache!
