Are these even being imported into canada ? i cant seem to find one.
i just want a milspec model without any bells and whistles on it.
exactly like this https://www.google.ca/search?q=590a1+us+service+model&client=firefox-a&hs=8hk&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&channel=nts&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=eNV5VLWhN_aZsQSI_IGYBg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=531#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=es-yXSGPWYWxmM%253A%3BBcPbFfg33tj5OM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.kygunco.com%252Fprodimages%252F38800-DEFAULT-L.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.kygunco.com%252Fmossberg-590a1-us-service-model-talo-12ga-shotgun-20-inch-9-shot-66890%3B800%3B533

Maybe not the exact model, but the one we've all been buying, modding and posting about should fit your need for "no bells and whistles"; cylinder bore, synthetic stock, bead sight.

The Mossberg factory stock is on the long side, as are most factory stocks so as to meet the needs of the greatest number of customers, so you might want to consider purchasing an adjustable replacement stock. I swapped mine out with a Magpul SGA so now that my gun fits me, its easier to shoot well, and no long hangs up on outer clothing when I shoulder it. The only downside is the sling attachment, but this is easily solved by installing a swivel stud on the bottom angle of the stock, which I did by drilling a small hole, applying epoxy to the shank of the stud screw and threading it in. Once you have everything at hand, it took about as long to do as it did to type this out.

If you insist on a model with a bead front sight, rather than a ghost ring, you may wish to swap it out for a higher one, or the gun will shoot high. For example, on a standard police silhouette target, a center chest hold will result in a head shot at 10 yards. That's pretty high! The only way to compensate is to lower the muzzle and shoot just as the bead drops out of sight ahead of the receiver, which is neither quick or precise. The front bead properly mounted needs to match the height of the receiver above the barrel, so it needs to be mounted on a pedestal.

You want the basic 590A1 but with the 8+1 capacity... seems not that easy to find this one as many have ghost rings, but it's around. 8+1 w/ghost rings and speedfeed stock is only $499 @ Wholesale sports.

i can learn to love the ghostring sights. i just want a functioning mil spec pump gun. i've given Remington 870 two chances now.
very disappointed.

so whats the next closest thing, the Black Water version ?

I have heard not so great things about the Blackwater's GRS XS sytem. Really any 590A1 is milspec. That is the whole idea. I personally also like the 20" with bead sight but it is near impossible to find. The only place I have seen one is on IRUNGUNS US site here: http://www.irunguns.com/product.mossberg-590-a1-semi-automatic-12-gauge-20-barrel-3-chamber-black-synthetic-parkerized-finish
By the time you factor in exchange rate it is going to be expensive though. I have the 20" SPX and I am really happy with it. Nice sights, although I have also heard good things about the Mossberg brand GRS and the 20" 590A1 with the mossy GRS comes up on the EE all the time.

I almost had basspro import the is service model for me on Wednesday. $700.

Decided on a 590a1 Blackwater for $130 less with a cool rail on top.

A reported issue with the rear XS ghost ring on the Blackwater is that the elevation of the ring tops out too early, resulting in not being able to adequately line up with overly tall front sight. Which is taller than the regular orange flared sight on the other 590A1 models.

I have heard this is a big complaint too. It's too bad really because it looks nice and low pro in the rear I don't know why they put such a tall front sight on it?

I am thinking of trying the Williams "Ace in the Hole" sight on a 20" with standard GRS and then replacing the peep with a Williams GRS rear. It gets really good reviews.

590A1 Blackwater is $569 and you get rails and ghost rings. Doesn't look like the cheap model is much less money or even available for purchase. Sounds like the sights on the BW aren't as good as the basic ghost rings though...

Just a side note , the u.s. military use a lot of plane jane Mossberg 500's in ether pistol grip or full stock and bead sight.
Nothing wrong with the 590 "non" A1, I've had one for over 20 years with no issue , point of fact mine is so old the receiver is marked model 500 , it's all the same gun.
The heavy barrels on the 590A1s from what I've read came about a request from the navy for their boarding parties ,not sure why , and then there's the metal trigger group and safety which you can get after market.

The US military also only tested a relatively small batch of shotguns. The 870 was not one of them, as Remington did not submit an entry for the contract...

From the little bit of reading I did on the A1s, it does seem to be a navy request. From what I gather it's because the chances of getting the gun bent while using it in the hatch ways of ships, wether it's intended to keep a hatch from being closed or sailors are just hard on guns? Idk.

I owned a 20" bead sight 590A1 many years ago. Kicking my self for selling it for a GRS 590A1 because they were the new rage and looked "tacticool". If I ever find an 18.5" 590A1 with bead sight it's coming home…but these are rarer than the 14" 590A1's(especially now)
The accessory rails on the fore-grip of the BW 590A1 are a pain in the thumb. Took them off after the first range session. Kept jamming my thumb on recoil. Lots of value for the $$ but the logo was too cheesy for me so eventually sold it….YMMV

a few years ago when I was doing armoured car, we got a batch of brand new 590's. Issues with them were that the stocks were coming loose, the speed feed stock was not properly holding the extra rounds ( shells were falling out while being handled and especially when being fired) the finish on the guns was very easy to scratch and they looked like #### in a few months. One of the guns got a dented heat shield from apparently being knocked over when a guy was gearing up. He leaned it against something when he went to get his rounds and the gun fell over hitting the ground. a few had issues with the mag tube. rounds would fail to come down the tube. if the gun was bumped, then the spring would push the follower and allow the rounds to feed again. I never had any issues with mine.. maybe cause I treated it well and cleaned it regularly.

A 20" "590 Persuader" with a bead just popped up on EE, but I'm not sure if it is an A1 or SP. It does have a bayo lug though. Its also only stamped with 590 in front of the shell lifter. But my 14" A1 is also like that. While my 20" A1 is stamped A1 in front of the lifter...
Maybe have a look and see if you can distinguish more details.
