590A1 US Service model

The 500A is a great SG. I have an 18.5" bead sight with a Raptor grip. Nice and light never fails to function. A very handy and portable SG.
However, IMO a 18.5" 590A1 with bead sight and mag tube extension is the ultimate package for a fast, well balanced SG with firepower and robustness(?).

I really have to question the extra weight of the 590A1.

Has anyone ever broken a barrel on a 500/88 because it wasn't heavy enough? How about someone breaking their trigger-guard?

All of these things are built way heavier on the 590A1; but how does that help the shooter?

I have a couple of really light tactical/modern pumps, but sometimes I like to use a heavy gun. So out comes the A1.

I've never been concerned about a 500/88 barrel or the polymer trigger guard/safety breaking nor ever heard of it happening through "normal" use.
As far as the heavier bbl and metal trigger group/safety of the 590A1's…..I find the added weight helps tame recoil of hi-brass shells. YMMV

In my opinion, it doesn't. That stuff adds durability, nothing more. The 500's I have are solid as a rock. 590A1's aren't made to be pretty, they are made to be workhorses. The weight difference between the 500 vs 590a1 is substantial. Recoil feels about the same to me.

I Could not find the no frills bead sight version at all so I wound up spending the extra cash for the 590A1 SPX. Got fancy sights, M9 bayonet and a ported barrel.
irunguns may be worth a try.
It is heavy when fully loaded and the length of pull is a bit long for me when I am in winter gear. Will be getting a Magpul SGA soon. Definitely a keeper.
