590A1 vs 870 Tactical

take a look at the Benelli supernove tactical too "for a few hundred dollars more, you get alot ;)"

I was a die hard 870 fan til I bought the 14" supernova

Between the Mossberg and Rem its a hard choice. But if your putting a pistol grip stock on, then I would go with the 870 "because of where the safety is"

That's not what dual extractors are for. They are for pulling shells out that don't otherwise want to move (too big, crappy rim, dirt / crud in the chamber, and so on). At this they excel.

Yep.....but I do hear it bandied about that if one of the extractors go, you still have another one.....it doesn't work that way, not from what I have seen anyways!

The other shotguns I have owned, I really haven't had a problem with extractors. In fact, I have never had one go on any shotgun that I have owned. I have had stuck spent shells in the chamber, and the rim has always been ripped apart by the extractor!
 
got a question,...I am supposed to go look at it to confirm it is the correct model. the store says it is a 590A1 20" barrel,..8 or 9 rd with bayonet and bayonet holder. I hope it is not the SPX model..as this was going to be also used for IPSC standard shotgun.
Do regular 590A1 with 8 or 9 rd capacity come with bayonets?
 
argh,...double argh....I will find out shortly. If so I may just order from out west....or get the 870 tactical 18.5 with KnoxxRR stock he also has (he wants $700 for that)
 
590A-1 heavy wall barrel comes in many configurations. If you want the model with a bayonet it will come with a 20 inch ported barrel, and and extended mag tube. Bayonet is an ontario knife.

A broken extractor on a 590/500 will effect reliability but it will still work most of the time. A broken extractor on a Remington turns it into a club.

If you plan to run a standard stock the 590 with its tang safety and recessed lifter is hands down a better design. If you decide to run a pistol grip stock then the 870 is the best option.

It was the ported version. I got the 590 20" with pistol grip for $400 taxes in. It comes with bayonet lug. And bead sight and also heat shield. Gonna get a knoxx rr stock asap. It appears to have the same capacity as the A1!
 
I have the 20" 9 round 590 A1 SPX ported heavy-walled parkerized barrel, metal trigger guard assembly, metal safety button with the factory-mounted Picatinny rail, LPA/M16-Style Ghost Ring with fiber optic front sight. I intsalled the Mesa Tactical recoil reducing stock on it. Probably my favourite shotgun and I own five.

Toughest shotgun I own. Every time I have shot it I feel like nothing can stop it. Not for people with girly arms though. :p
 
I own a 590 and have no problems, but my experience with the 870 is far greater. I worked for an armoured car company years ago for many years and I have seen our Remingtons go through a lot of abuse. The get dropped, wet, dirty, poor cleaning, and even drove over by an armoured truck. They are work horses and anytime you have multiple users the gun gets less care than it would with an individual owner. I am impressed by their ruggedness and dependability.

Thats all I'm able to offer in terms of advice, and as I said I don't have anything bad to say about Mossberg.
 
someone push me in the correct direction. I don't like the pistol grip stock,.it looks neat but if I was to run it like that, I fear my wrists would be a mess after a while. For ####s and giggles a knoxx pistol grip would be better. I was leaning towards a KNoxxs RR stock (full size, not just pistol grip),..but realized the safety may be harder to get at,...that being said,...I also want a rail near the front for a light mount as well. I also need a side saddle,..preferably on the reciever. Is there a something I should be thinking about.....should I go with a hogue or speedfeed stock for better access to the safety?

SO, I need a stock,...shell holder, and possibly light mount or rail for light mount. Suggestions?
 
Yep....Pistol grip stocks suck combined with a tang safety.

I have the Speed Feed on mine.....it is nice for those OH Sh!t! rounds that you sometimes might need, I don't rely on it for fast reloads at all. Karl B recently got the Knoxx CompStock, but said he was not overly impressed with it, I would like to try it myself.

I like the Mesa Sidesaddles, they hold the shells with the right amount of tension compared to some other brands.

Can't help you with a light rail, but I see S&J Hardware have a couple different options.
 
I can deal with recoil for a few slugs...so I think the speed feed would be an option.
