Where can I find the "traditional" 590A1 variant? 9-shot magazine, 20" heavy barrel with bayonet lug, bead sight and heat shield. Like this:

I know it can be front heavy, etc, etc. I just want one :)

I see the 8+1, 20" around with bead sight, but the heat shield isn't that easy to find on a 590A1 for some reason. Maybe it's just that I don't know where to look, but I don't see many of them with heat shields installed. Maybe the heat shield was installed after purchase.

I think it's a regular 590 you have pictured, not the 590A1 as none of the 8+1, 20" have a model with a heat shield on their website.

Has mossberg ever had an A1 with a heatshield?

EDIT- ^^ they beat me to it.

I believe they have one, that just may be an old stock photo of a model from the past. There is no current 590A1 with that configuration that I see on their website.

I posted this a while back, showing what a guy did to his 590A1:

"Several months ago I picked up a 590A1 SPX from local gun shop and I wanted to do something along the lines of a old style trench gun. Took me quite a few months to find the right stock I was looking for and a correct heat shield. Mossberg Item number: 16335P Heatshield ASM Parkerized for Hvy Wall BBL $38.00 plus shipping (note: its not always shown in their catalog but they have it, call and ask for it, 1-800-363-3555).
Shotgun: 590A1
Stock: 1989 Former Mossberg Police Model 500, (old style corncob fore grip)
Heat Shield: Mossberg's newest heat shield correct for the 590A1 and parkerized
(installed very easily and fits perfect and correct).
Overall, I think she turned out pretty good....."

Your best option would be to get the 20" 8+1 590 Marinecote with bead sight and order the Mossberg marinecote heatsheild Brownells has.

I looked for months for the same 590A1 model although without the heat shield. The only place I could find it available to us was Irunguns on their US website here: http://www.irunguns.com/product.mossberg-590-a1-semi-automatic-12-gauge-20-barrel-3-chamber-black-synthetic-parkerized-finish but with the exchange I decided against it.

I then decided to pick up a standard 590 of the EE just a few weeks ago and threw some wood furniture on it.

To be honest I have owned a 20" 590A1 and I found the regular 590 is much more pleasant. It is not as front end heavy due to the heavy barrel and balance feels better.

The one pictured from wiki is the Military contract version (no front sling loop and full parkerizing) although the USM uses a many variations of the 590A1. I just happen to like this one.

Heat shields won't fit on 590 heavy barrels.

Yes, they do.

All A1s have heavy barrels. The regular 590 does not. I put a link to this model you are looking for above.

It would seem they do. I stand corrected.

Just get the regular 590 then that comes with everything you want, including the heat shield.

Set on the A1 "just because". I already have nice handling sporting shotguns.

Some shotgun models on Mossberg site are very hard to find in Canada. The 20" bead, heatshield model for example.

It's not on the website. Either they don't have all the configurations on the site or it's not available this model year. He can just get the model he likes the best and then get the proper heavy walled, parkerized heat shield, that's if he can find it in Canada. Maybe Grech can get it for him.
