590a1

This is listed for 18.5" models only (perhaps the barrel taper is different on 20" models?).

I am not into 3rd party parts that are not specifically designed for the model I have. I also don't want to have to modify anything for proper fit (unless the part is cheap/disposable).

The Aimpro part would be $100+ to your door.

I see that but he had it installed on a 20" as you can see in the pics. He didn't say anything about modification but maybe a PM would be in order to check with him.

Dude reported that he got it direct from Mossberg USA, posted it on AR15.com:

SKU#16335P HEATSHIELD ASM PARKERIZED FOR HVY WALL BBL $38.00 PLUS $6.95 FOR SHIPPING

Grech Outdoors (Cdn Mossberg parts/warranty center) may be able to get it for you. There may be fitting involved, but this is the proper part for the heavy walled 590A1. Unsure if there are different sizes for the 18.5 and 20.

$100 for a thin piece of metal - no thanks.

I don't think a heat shield will install with a front sight base either (mine is cemented on).

I have a couple of "590 Persuaders" (with heat shields) and have broken them down a couple of times for cleaning. What a deal - $240 at WSS a few years ago.

I ordered the "correct" heat shield from brownells (for Mossberg w heavy barrel and breacher end), and was assured it was the right one. It wasn't. It didn't fit. I sent it back.
I've emailed Grech and Aimpro for sharts and giggles.
I already bought a tac star plastic one off the EE. It will fit with some work but I'd like a proper metal one.

I have a heat shield on a 500, it's not that useful of an option. I wouldn't spend that much on one, especially since it seems they need fitting anyway. Only way I'd get one is if I could get it direct from Mossberg, so I'd know it would be the correct one - and it was reasonably priced.

Agreed that it's not that useful. Looks good depending on the setup.
FYI Aimpro response:

Thanks for your inquiry.

Yes we have them in stock $59.

Shipping (USPS International Priority) is approximately $30- 40 to Canada . We would need your complete address to quote exact shipping

Too much $$ if you ask me.

$90-100 US... that's nuts for a $38 part from Mossberg.

Useful for a civilian application? Nope! It's a conversation piece. I just want a combat shotgun... Still on the fence between a M590A1 and M1014 (Benelli M4). Leaning toward the M590A1 because it will eat anything I feed it. But I really like how the M4 handles, the sights not so much

The only thing that chaps my @ss is why I can't find a regular beaded sight 590A1 in Canada. I guess my money is going state side.

sarcasm follows:

Q " I'm looking for a large, long, heavy, military shotgun, anyone know who has one in stock?"

A "get a GSG 22 - it's not what you want, or what you asked about, but despite being a restricted small caliber handgun, it's better all round"

sarcasm ends.

:d

Yup. CGN in a nut shell.

Yeah, apparently its important to realize just who you are offering help to around here before investing the time..

Asks for help, gets it, then he insults people? Maybe that's the CGN he's a member of.

I wouldn't spend $100 US on a heat shield, but that's just me. Good luck.

The specific model he's asking for with a bead sight, 20", 8+1 w/heat shield doesn't exist on the Mossberg site. Maybe you have the location of one in Canada to help rather than that contribution ^ - you know, the model that's not even listed on their website? Anxiously waiting for your reply.

Here's a model, less the heat shield at IRG, going to cost you a fortune with the price of the heat shield and the 28% exchange rate + $25 US to ship + GST:

$542.27 US alone is about $694 cdn.

There you go, end of thread. The peep sights are actually good, would rather have that than the black bead that you can barely see (but that's my old eyes talking).
