597 accuracy

Its not a $150 dollar rifle. The TVP was $525 with the taxes paid. The VQ parts are about another $60. I guess maybe I shouldn't include optics in the estimate as they can easily be removed for another rifle.

I haven't had much luck with any of the brands on the original list either.

If you haven't tried "Federal Auto Match" bulks, do so. They come in 325 round boxes and they will group under 1.5in at 50m for me all day long. My 597 is bone stock with the exception of a $50, 4x30 air gun scope.

Another brand to try out is the CCI Blazers, as previously mentioned. They will shoot about the same as the Auto Match in my 597.

With both of these brands of ammo, ragged hole groups no bigger than a quarter are very common at the 50m point.

Good luck!

I keep hearing about these CCI Blazers, but have no experience with them, haven't seen them on any shelves, and can't find any data on the cci website. Does anyone have any experience with them in a varmint situation. I will special order some to try, but if they are no good in the killing fields, it doesn't help me much.

Let me preface this by stating I hate Remington ammo. That said my 597 shoots best with the Remington high velocity stuff, not yellow jacket just the plaid "high velocity". I tried 7 different types and it did the best. Expect the occasional missfire that everyone has come to expect from remmy ammo.

I buy my CCI Blazers at Canadaian Tire, just for target shooting, nothing eles so there may be better ammo for the killing fields.

I stripped my 597 last night right down to the last spring in the bolt to clean it and I made a discovery. The stock was full of grit and was not making good contact with the reciever at all. So I cleaned it all up and made sure everything was tight. It now is shooting much better than before and may have been saved from the EE

Yeah, I did that right after the first time my girlfriend shot it. It was shooting a little off so I took it apart and found that grimy crap. There was some under the sights too.

Blazers are ok, at least they burn clean, but sometimes you get duds or a round pops off and doesn't always cycle the action properly. As far as cheap stuff goes it's around the top IMHO.

try some winchester dynapoints tried every one around and with those just shot today a 25 shot group at 97 yards in less than 1.250 inch with most under half inch unbelievable and that is with factory trigger and wind gust up to 15 km /h I was also playing shooting rocks up to 250 yards with decent accuracy now I need to try some shims under the base of the scope for the ultimatum test at 500 yards

I don't think you will be able to calibrate for 500 yards.

the distance was ranged with a range finder so thats why I know its 97 yards I tried to remeasure it like 15 times to make sure and it always shows at 97 yard so accurate enough for me.

I also have another .22 that devours federal 525 pack, a lakefield mark II that has been modified and re crowned, bedded, re chambered and head spaced really tight and it shoots 1/4 to 1/2 at 50yards and this one zeroed at 25yards I go 134 clicks to reach 200 yards and will group in light wind inside 4 inch if I read the wind good.
