597 vs 10-22

In my own experience no it is not. I owned a 597VTR for some time and it was definetly more accurate right out of the box. I actually quite liked that rifle but ended up selling it because it spent more time in warranty then in my hands, kept tossing ejectors. There are quite a few threads about how to tune them to run better, like properly torquing the guide rods and such(rimfire central is great) but Im a modifier so I switched over to ruger.
 
Just want to add when saying it was more accurate than a factory stock 10/22 that it isnt exactly a fair comparison. The 597VTR has a bull barrel on it and the Rugers I was comparing it to at the time where standard barrel models not Target or bull barrel models.
 
Remmy 597VTR against a ruger 10/22VLEH is a fair comparison, but with the unlimited resources for the ruger it's a no brainer.

I like the 597 but I'll concede that the aftermarket is so huge for the 10/22 that you can probably make it a lot more accurate than a 597 if you want to make performance upgrades and not just cosmetic ones. I'm not even sure you can get upgraded barrels for the 597 up here anymore?
 
I have both. Both are stock. I prefer the 597 because I am 6'4" and the 597 has a full sized rifle stock whereas the 10/22 seems to have been designed with an 8 year old in mind.
 
I had a 597. Sold the piece of #### and bought a Savage 64 instead. The 64 is a far better gun than that 597 ever could have hoped to be. My 10-22 is the SR-22.
 
There seems to be a few 597s that were lemons. Mine has been flawless, shooting Yellowjackets to break it in, and 525 bulk ever since.

To OP's question, the 10/22 is for you.
 
I had nothing but great fun with my 597. Pretty accurate for a semi, and as suggested a "full sized" rifle. High-cap magazines (too clunky for my liking) are available, and some other aftermarket stuff too. My 597 didn't suffer like some of the ones I've read about. I still have about a dozen various .22's, and won't tolerate a 10/22 on the premises...

I cannot deny, if you wish to buy a rifle, then buy other stuff for that rifle, the 10/22 has a crazy abundance off add-on bits n' pieces...
 
So just came back from a Sunday shoot, the SR-22 was dusting clay pigeons at 240yrds confirmed with a range finder. The SR is absolutely stock with a fixed 4x bushnell, BC 25rnd clip and a Harris bipod, 1500rnds and not a single fail, yet to see a 597 perform that flawlessly and hitting clay at 240 consistently with a stock 22 seems like good accuracy to me. Could never convince me to buy a 597 over a 10/22, just look at the sticky's at the top of the rimfire section speaks for itself. For a semi 22 you could chance getting a lemon 597 or just go with the tried tested and true 10/22, but the choice is all your, just my 2 cents.
