I've only owned the 795. I've never even handled a 597. But, with that being said, the 795 was a great little rifle and I enjoyed it very much. I "upgraded" to a 10/22 that allowed me to accessorize it into something a bit more "tacti-cool" but my buddy has a 795 and he loves it. I still regret selling mine every time I shoot his.
