just bought a 597 vtr and was hoping opening up a vtr fan thread hoping to get some tips from other owner/fans. that being said can anyone tell me if regular ar-15 accessories will work with my vtr or where to get acessories in canada i would be very grateful thanks

also, apparently the stock barrel shroud uses the same threading as the AR-15 stuff...

There is a Remington 597 Forum at Rimfirecentral.com. It has a lot of good information in it about accessories, modifications, operation and maintenance.
I changed the stock hammer for a Volquartsen one, and it was amazing how it improved the trigger pull. I also bought a VQ extractor but have not put it in yet as my 597 works great.
Biggest thing is not to tighten the screws on the guide rods too much as you will bow them and slow down the bolt operation, causing FTF problems. Just snug them up, then back off 1/4 turn.

just put 400rnds through the the vtr its hella accurate and had only a few ftf's. the only problem seemed to be when my 30 shot clip was full the 30th round would fire the 29th would miss feed and the other 28 would cycle no problem so i started just putting 28 rounds in the mag and had no problems the rest of the day. Very impressed with this rifle.
