Hi:

So I wasted $50 on a metal HBAR M4 front sight. It can't be drilled out to fit on the VTR .920" barrel.

So, I understand there's airsoft plastic 1" M4 front sights, but are there any metal sights, and what's the best way to fill out the space other than black electrical tape??!?!!!

I saw in a previous thread that Ronytonk has the plastic ones.

your barrel is not stock the stock one is 13/16

Ronky has metal sights.

You should be able to mill it out that what I did

I'm not sure if this would help, however have you considered installing an AR Gas block on the front of your barrel? This is the gas block I picked up:

It's meant for a paintball marker, but it fits without any modifications. The advantage of the gas block is that you can now choose from an endless array of sight options for your VTR.

Since this gas block also has top and bottom rails, this will allow you to mount lights, lasers, etc on your front mount. If you mount a laser, you will not suffer from horizontal parallax with distance.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry. I should have included a picture of my VTR, so that you could see what it looks like:

If you look closely in front of the hand guard, you'll notice the gas block, which is clamped on by 4 bolts (included with the kit and 2 bolts per side.) The gas block is slightly separated from the hand guard by shimming it with a 1/8" allen key during installation so that it will not touch the hand guard.

The rifle is then clamped on to a level bench, and a bubble level was used to match the angle of the gas block to that of the receiver, so that the sights will easily line up.

The advantages of this set up are:

- This 1/8" separation of the gas block on the free floating barrel, will prevent the sights from locking up against the hand guard when the barrel heats up. This allows for sight consistency as the barrel changes with temperature. If I had mounted a front sight to the hand guard, the POI might drift as the sight remains stationary while the barrel drifted with the change in temperature.

- With the lower rail, I can also mount a laser, and not have to worry about horizontal parallax over distance. (For me, it is much easier to correct for elevation than windage over varying distances.)

- By utilizing a picatinny rail, I can install any sight system that you can find on an AR, and not be limited to just the standard "A frame" sights.
