5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum

If 5mm RRM was available in my area for less than any of the centerfire rounds...

I've heard talk of this obsolete round regaining popularity down south and started wondering if any of you fine folk have any firearms chambered for it or some trigger time you'd like to share.

With the 17's now available there probably won't be any more serious talk about trying to bring back the 5mm. Performance is just too similar.

Its intersting to see how well they have gained popularity compared to what happened with teh 5mm though.

Aquila is making 5mm Rimfire Mag again. The popularity of the .204 Ruger has made bullets available again.

Most of the guys that I hear about, buying 5mm rifles, just want the actions for Hornet based conversions in a CF. Mostly Remington 5mm's, as the action is pretty sweet, once the bolt has been converted to CF, and the action threaded to take a screw-on barrel.

Not a screwdriver conversion by a long shot.

Overwhelmingly, I'd rather have a 17AH, than a 17HMR.

I was pretty enthused about the 17Mach2 until I saw the price of a box of shells, and that was the end of that! I can put 500 rounds of 22 rimfire downrange for the price of two boxes of 17M2.

The 5mm. Meh. I doubt we'll see the ammo up here anyway, so I won't worry about it at all.

Cheers

I did just that! Mine is left hand, single shot 22K Hornet

There is dying, and there is dead, and there aren't even bones left of the 5mm Remington corpse. As far as any cartridge with the Remington name stamped on it, Remington themselves seem to want to kill them off even before they've failed at market; I would personally treat them as though they are the plague.

5mm REM RF Magnum

I still have a bolt action, clip fed one with a 50 round box of ammo that's been a safe queen for quite a few years now. Don't want to shoot it, don't know where I'd replace the ammo.
Was a great accurate little rifle, did a number on groundhogs.

Make a new 5mm that shares the same rim diameter as other rimfires, there would be interest in that. Then it would be possible to convert to/from other calibers on existing guns. A bunch of the rimfire mfgs. have new switch-barrel gun coming out also...

Found some 5mm by Centurion. Sits in the clip well, chambers well, but haven't had a chance to bang any off yet. Unfortunately, my range is 6" underwater at the moment....:(

I have 5mm Rem Mag clip feed gun shoots great ( better than any 22 mag does) and i,ve had lot,s of them I have collected a large amount of the factory Rem Mag shells over the last 30 plus years I sell a few box,s now and my price is $90 a box shipped this is colletor ammo not made in Mexico -- don22

Where can a person still buy 500 rounds of 22lr for $13?

I have a 5mm and it shoots excellent and I get the ammo from a friend that makes the odd trip up here. He buys it at midwayusa. And Stubblejumper the Co-op in town still has 22 shells for $13 a brick in fact the sale is on right now.
