5R milspec

One other point. Yes it does hold this accuracy out to 200 and 300 yards. I haven't tried further yet.

I've also shot a few other 5R rifles and they shot sub .5 moa. Even at 200 yards. /QUOTE]

Nice groups, looks like you have a fair amount of trigger time. So, how does the group size stay the same with the 5 R @ 200 ?

Called around to a few dealers, no info at all if still in production , Remington web site don't show a listing, any dealers stock the 5R ?

Thanks for the input guys :)

I am glad to see that your point was proven. I dislike when people are skeptical just for the sake of being skeptical.

The guys that are skeptical just for the sake of being skeptical are usually the prima donna group that only shoot custom rifles ie F Class, Bench etc or people that sell barrels and say you can only get accuracy with custom barrels.

Definately. Whatever floats your boat. I might tell someone that what they have is crap if it has never worked for anyone, including them, but if it works for the user, that's all that matters.

.5 moa at 200 yards isn't half an inch. The rough way of thinking is 1 MOA at 100 yards is 1". 1 MOA at 200 yards is 2". Although there is a more specific formula.

You can find the formula here:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2068496/Mils-and-MOA-A-Tactical-Shooters-Guide

Also note when measuring group sizes there are different ways. From edge to edge, and center to center. The center to center is the most often used. Most people take off the caliber of the bullet which is what I do. So it's a rough estimate. Others will shoot a few and then measure each hole and take the average. They will then subtract this from the edge to edge to get their final measurement.

I have a new Remington 700 SS 5R on my rack and it didn't like the lite rounds. Probably something in the 140 gr range. I had better ammo but brought the wrong case, and the Bausch Lomb 4000 scope wouldn't adjust down far enough to site in at 100 yds.
I am sure I only fired 6 rounds out of it and decided I was just going to get frustrated so I shot something else.
I can't wait to try it out at the range with Lake City Match, Norma match, and some rounds loaded by a friend of mine who goes to great length to creat tack driver rounds. They worked great in my Steyr SSG 69 P 308, and they should give the same or better groups when I get the time to go to the range.

5r

Here is my Experience after owning and shooting the 5R for the past 3 years and doing a lot of load development with it, with the rifle in both stock form and then customised , In stock form with a Falcon Menace scope mounted on it the rifle shot excellent groups at 100 yards useing the .175 Smk behind 43.0 of Varget and at 200 i was able to get 3 shot cloverleafs , at 300 and beyond ** in stock form ** the rifle showed its weakness , i shot it at Volkes at 400 / 500 and 600 and thats where it did not cut the mustard, I wanted to shoot in F -Class so i had McPhee make a custom barrel for it accurise the action and install a jewel trigger ( the stock trigger is crap IMO ) In its modded form it is a very competive rifle at the longer distances and shoots bug holes at 100 and 200 , So yes in its stock form at 100 and 200 its a shooter ( but then so is my .257 weatherby accumark ) and if what you want is a good sunday range gun fill your boots , but if you want to shoot accuratly at longer distances the 5R is an excellent platform to build an
F class rifle on, Its stainless action and stock are top quality parts , McPhee said the factory stock is well made and instead of putting money into a custom stock spend it on optics so i added a Nightforce Br scope , And the new barrel does not have 5R grooving in it :shotgun:

Geez... talk about painting with a broad brush. I know dozens of people in F class and BR and I would be hard pressed to call even a single one a prima donna. Most will give you the shirt off their back if asked, or even let you borrow their rifle if need be during a match.

How is it that it's a little darling up to 300 and dies on the vine from 400 out ?

Happy enough with mine that had trigger tuned, recrowned and bedded into a B&C 2094 stock by Guntech. Was happy with it before that too - had to merit the money spend on it.

Last month took it to range, had loaded up some bulk 165gr SPTZ BT in primed brass I bought (guess it was full length resized, it measured between 2" and 2.006" - no prep). Friend, bow shooter who had not shot rifle, shot three groups of three at 200m, one was 1.1", rest were under 1" center to center.

Before the B&C stock and recrown shot it in the F-Class intro clinic at Kamloops at 500m (think that is where targets were) and was mid pack so rifle not seem the limiting factor at that point.

Think that once a different barrel, different trigger... then not matter much what you start with, its no longer a "5R". The rifle is certainly competent enough to allow a shooter determine their competency and may be the penultimate "gateway rifle" - allow shooter decide if want to go custom route (and if so provides platform to build on). Regardless, it punches well above its weight class.

Have direct knowledge of five of these, all shoot consistently under .75 moa up 300 yards - not enough experience beyond there to comment but hope to find some areas to shoot nearby (Mission, Harrison, Chilliwack - should be a good 1000m range in one of those places).

That was my first day ever shooting rifles. I love your rifle and if you ever want to sell it, you know who to talk to. :D
