5R rifling accuracy?

Given all the accuracy chatter, it is surprising that none of the Milspec 5R's have not shown up in the Sub 1/2 MOA Challenges for ether 100/300 yds or the sub 3/4" for factory heavy barrels?

You know, that is interesting JEC. I really am not surprised that it hasn't shown up in the sub 1/2 MOA as, frankly, I tried and failed with my PGW and had to use my F/Open rifle to achieve that one in both the 100 and 300 challenges ( even though IIRC better riflemen than I did it with their PGW's ). What is a bit surprising is that no R5 has been used to complete the sub 3/4 MOA challenge - mine is in pieces right now waiting for a new stock but I have been meaning to attend to this challenge and so I will give it a go in the next few weeks and report back.

personally, i think its more a case of the indian and not the arrow.
While i "know" that there are quite a few expert marksmen on cgn, they already have rifles that match their skills. I think "most" of the people (like me) buying the various 5R rifles like the 700, and the 10LE TR, arent able to use the rifle/rifling to its maximum potential.

Not really. I was aware there were Internet comps like that but never bothered to read the threads. Internet claims are often suspect including so called videos of amazing shooting. I know what I've seen in real life with these rifles. The 5R isn't hard to get but you don't see too many around do to the higher cost in the 700 linep, many going to cheaper ones to build or custom, plus many are bought with collectability/cult status in mind. Which also brings us to the ammo etc. $2 a round for $168 Federal Gold. When I shoot these rifles it's after shooting the much cheaper stuff as I usually only shoot about 5-15 rounds with this rifle. It comes out at the end of the trip.

That being said I never really thought about Internet challenges before and with a possible round at half the cost of the proven round I think I'll take a look and give it a try this fall.

Epoxy7 - the challenges are worthwhile; sure you could cheat but, really, the only person you are really competing against is yourself so it would be like playing a solo round of golf and shaving a few strokes off. The 1/2" and 1/2 MOA are esp tough and like I said I couldn't do it with any of my tactical rifles so I had to break out my F/Open rig.

Hmmm sounds like a pretty tough challenge. I'll take a look.
