It is coming up on a year since we held our last Double Gun Classic so it is time to get together again. Oshawa Skeet & Gun Club has once again agreed to let us meet up at their club and like last year, they will provide us with a dedicated skeet field. (The club has skeet, trap & sporting clays)

Please note that this is an informal get together for those of us that enjoy SxS's. No scores or competitions. This is not being organized by the Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club so please do not contact them regarding our get together. They are simply being good enough to let us meet up at their club. Send me a PM if you have a question.

Like previous years, we will have an award for the "Best Gun" as voted by everyone attending. Hopefully we can get a good group out, enjoy seeing some side by sides and have a good time! Let me know if you can make it.

As a reminder, everyone is welcome irregardless of whether or not you have a SxS. Hopefully a few other groups can get together in other locations as well.

Note:
- Have your PAL with you.
- Visit the Oshawa Skeet & Gun Club website for club rules, directions, etc.

Very good Patrick. As you may have suspected, I'm in.

We had a really great turn out last year. Super weather and lots of guys with their vintage (and not so vintage) SxS. Patrick does a super job of organizing this and we get a lot of cool firearms showing up. Last year we had a first time attendee who has an incredible pinfire collection from the 1850s through to about 1870. And he brought a great assortment of pinfires from some of England's very top makers for us to fondle.

The Club is also a really good spot. Nice little snack bar serving up a mean bacon and eggs ( among other things).

As Patrick noted, we aren't super competitive, either on the range or with the guns. We just like having a good time and sharing our enthusiasm for these guns with others who feel the same. So if you've thought about coming, you should really try to make it.

Anyone who is thinking of coming from a long way and wants to stay overnight, PM me. I may have room. The advantages of being divorced. LOL

Oops... just booked a remote walleye trip with a buddy for that date... I would have enjoyed that and seeing you guys again. Have fun!

What shells do you guys recommend for shooting clays with a late 19th century English boxlock with fluid steel barrels? It has 2 3/4" chambers. Would the standard target loads be okay?

Standard target loads are not okay. They typically are at the high end of the scale for pressure generated.

Low pressure loads from RST or Gamebore.

RST have to come from Propher River in Alberta and Gamebore from Kent in Markham who can direct you to a dealer. I prefer RST for clays as they have great performance, are nice and low pressure and soft shooting. Availabilit can be an issue. Gamebore pressures are not quite as low and the shells have a little more punch to them.

If it’s a 12 ga you can also look for either Kent Elite in 2 1/2” (not 2 3/4”) or Winchester AA low recoil low noise in 2 3/4”

This answer could be expanded upon if we had some idea of the condition of the bores and could see the proof marks. Also what the condition of the woood at the receiver / stock interface is like.

Kent elites wont cycle in my older semi auto guns. The only one that would was my turkish asena. Even then they werent 100 percent. They barely made 1000fps over a chronograph
