I have a sweet heavy barrel CZ .22 shipping on Aug 11th. I have a 455 Lux for true bush grouse and bunny busting so I thought to set this one up for some longer range magpie control along with maybe calling some grouse head shots....

Fifteen feet of view at 100 a little tight to casual hunt with? Probably 60ish + yard shots, or go with 4-12AO? Oh ya, VXII series.... Also want the try the fifty yard challenge here! ;)

What's "too much" for one shooter isn't enough for another. If it works for you, then go for it. Sounds to me like you have some longer-range plans with the heavy-barreled CZ...so I personally don't think 6-18x is too much. I JUST bought a new CZ452 Varmint :)) :) :) ) and I'm debating whether or not my vintage 4-12x AO Bushnell Banner will please me...or..if I should put my 6-18x Vortex Viper HS on it. I have a 4-12x AO Vortex Diamondback on one of my other .22s, and it seems about perfect for 75-100 yard shots.

I like 3-15x for my rimfires for all around use, but I have a 5-25 on my Anschutz 54 msr. 6X would be more than I would want if trying to shoot the head off of a grouse at 10 yards.

Nope. That is great for that rifle. I have a 6-14x40 on my CZ455 varmint in .17HMR. I love it. You just back off the power for close in. You should go for it.

I like the 4-20x50 Weaver I have on my 452 Varmint. It's a little on the large and heavy side, but the glass quality is great and the magnification is high enough that I can spot my shots at 100 yards with it.

Yup no such thing as too much scope. I have a 4-16Ă—50 vortex cross fire ii on my savage BV and a 6-24Ă—50 BDC on my Savage tr. Nothing like seeing clear holes well past 100yds we're your shooting.

I think the power is OK, I like lots of power. That said this is not the scope for small game/gopher, etc. as the ao is at 50 yds. +. You will likely shoot lots at 20 yds. Find a good scope that will focus at 10-15 yds. Again, my opinion is worth what you paid for it. :)

I have the 4.5-14 x 50 leupold knock-off on my lakefield, it's fine for 100 yard shots at higher magnification and not to awkward at low magnification for 15 yard shots.

I think you'll find it great for target shooting at 100 yards, but probably a bit hard to quickly line up gopher shots at 10 yards. If your fine with that then it should fit your needs.

hehe.
i had the same dilemma when i was setting up my distance 22.
i fixed that by making a short 22 for plinking, my distance 22 is strictly for punching paper at distance.

and to make you feel better im currently running a cheap 6x24x42
but im fleshing out changing to a Hawke Sidewinder 6x24x56 or even a 8x32x56 - so nice on eyes that are getting older!

There is no such thing as "too much" scope on an accurate .22
I use a Weaver T36 on a custom 10/22 I built, Sightron 36X42 on an Anschutz 54 Match benchrest rifle and a Leupold Competition 45X on a custom built 2500X. All will focus down to 25 yds. and I shoot out to about 230 yds. as well, most of my shooting is at 50 yd. to 100 meters. Aim small miss small. ;)

You will certainly be able to tell us all about the pink mist when you connect with them furry lil buggers ;)
So, what route you going?

I have a Hawke sidewinder tactical 6.5-20 x 42 on my Sav. .22. Not "wonderful" optics, but it focuses down to 10yds, which is nice for gophers. You can get them in 8.5-25 and (I think) 4-14 if you want. There are many options, so you need to decide what you need. I really like the 6.5-20. No such thing as too much, but the less expensive optics usually suffer at high mags... C.
