Just bought a 6.5-06 barrel . Been doing some reading on what brass is best to use. All I have read says use 25-06 brass and 30-06 brass . Why not 270 win I have a surpluss and would like to put it to use, also what Dies are you guys using

The 270 will be a touch longer and the shoulder might be in a different spot. I'm sure you could get it to work with alittle extra work.

I'd just neck up 25-06 brass but that's me

270 Brass will work just fine, but you will have to trim the neck length back
about .050" due to extra length of the 270 case.
The shoulder is OK on the 270. The 280 has a shoulder a bit forward.
I always used 25-06, but since you have plenty of 270 brass, go for it!!
I always used RCBS dies.
Eagleye.

Most 6,5-06 chambers are just the 30-06 reamer ground down to the dimensions correct for the 6.5-06. Just neck down the 30-06 cases and trim accordingly. It isn't a big step down and doesn't require more than one pass through the sizing die. It may be prudent not to leave the decapping/sizing head on for the initial pass. I've never had an issue with it though so I can't really say you will have any problems. Use lots of lube and new brass, or at least brass that's had the necks reannealed.

If it was chambered with a tight neck reamer, you may have to turn the necks for proper fit. I started out using 270 brass in mine (just because I had some), but found that virgin 25-06 was a lot easier to work with and gave the best results.

Used 30-06 brass in mine. One pass on the fl sizer just enough to create false shoulder. Definitely recommend neck turning if you use 270 or 30-06 as the forming process flows quite a bit extra brass in the neck. 120 TTSX at 3150 is great Deer medicine.
