6.5-06

6.5-06 is one of the easiest wildcat cartridges to own and shoot or load for.. I use 25-06 brass, simple to open it up and go. also because i already own rifles in 30-06, and 270 and no 25-06 rifle so no mix ups due to head space. mild in recoil, effective and tight shooting. its kind of like a laser, or maybe that feeling is because i built it myself and not a lot of other guys have one. mine loves to shoot 129gr Hornady, A-max and the second best grouping projectile was the 140 gr Nosler Accubond. i haven't mastered a load for the Bergers yet, but with the groups i have on the other 2 cartridges I haven't tried too hard. While no match shooter, i was pretty happy to ring steel repeatedly at 700 yards. Mine is on a tikka T3 action on a Gaillard stainless barrel.

This. My current 6.5-06 is built on a Win 70. The 6.6-06 is ballistically the twin of the 6.5-284 and the 6.5 Rem Mag, give or take a few fps. Both are a little faster than the 6.5 Swede, all else being equal. It's a great hunting cartridge, and every one I've owned has been accurate. - dan
