Been seriously considering a hunting rifle build in 6.5-300wm. Just wondering what info I can gather on this site. Any info, twist rates, velocitys, barrel life, barrel length,load data for 140gr pills, anything I can get my hands on. The help is much appreciated

I have one, but haven't shot it in 3-4 years. I have a 1:9 twist 24" barrel. Many 6.5mm shooters prefer a faster twist, but it stabilizes the 160's I've shot in it. Here's some load data (all Max Loads):
140 gr Hornady - 3.320" OAL
H1000 - 69.0 grs - 3140 fps
Retumbo - 70.0 grs - 3150 fps
US869 - 84.0 grs (full) - 3300 fps
You're only going to get 50-75 fps more than a 264 Win Mag, and about 50 fps less than a 26 Nosler.
In regular use as a hunting rifle, the barrel will last about 30 years.

If you want to build a fast 6.5. Consider chambering in one of the Sherman's either the regular or the short.
I built in in the regular 6.5 Sherman. Based on a 270 win case. Then some foreforming to make it 6.5 and blow the shoulder out.
Right now I am shooting the 140 Berger hybrid at just a touch over 3000fps and only using 61 grains of R-26.
And that speed is verified with drops shooting out to 900 yards

The rifle is a stiller action with a #5 Brux barrel on it about 27 1/2 inches long.
Not hard on stufff as it isn't using a lot of powder. Lots of the other guys ghat have them have way over 1500 rounds without any accuracy loss

Exactly - max capacity out of a 30-06 family case, just like the 6.5 Gibbs, 6.5-06 AI and many others. Change angles by a couple of degrees and neck length by a few thou and it's "greatly improved". Absolutely nothing's new, but most vanity wildcats are never used except for by their originator. What is commendable is that the claimed max MV for a 140 is a sane 3000 fps. Others claim 3200 fps!
The sanity check for 6.5mm 30-06 based wildcats is the 280 AI. Any loads exceeding its MV's are well over 60K psi, e.g. 140's much over 3000 fps.

I have two regular 6.5-06 rifles. One will make just under 3000 fps with 140 gr bullets, the other only does 2900, same loads. I have no method of testing the pressure, but I'm willing to bet that the 2900 fps rifle is running closer to what they should be. Never really know without pressure testers though, could just be one very fast barrel and one regular. Interesting though. - dan

There are lots of these things built that run these velocities.
And oh yeah greatly improved!! Do you have a clue ? Have you actually built one and loaded for it?
Maybe have a look around. There's a lot of these cartridges built in a lot of different calibers that are very efficient.
And I have lots of wildcats that I load. Some are powder slobbering slugs. And some aren't.
If yah want get in the game.

Andy has done more load development and destruction testing for the sake of mythbusting if you had any clue.
There is nothing in his post that is incorrect, ammunition is still bound by the laws of physics, more pressure = more velocity.

Wow, someone is a little testy..........I think you need to go back and reread Andy's post a little slower..........I might add that the OP was specifically asking about a 6.5X300 Win Mag, not some silly '06 based 6.5 wildcat. And if you want to start comparing wildcats, to quote Val Kilmer in Tombstone........"Well I'm here buttercup and that's just my game"..........
