6.5 Carcano vs 7.5 Swiss

I'm this <-> close to having my .308 Heavy Varmint converted to 7.5x55. Simple bore ream and I'll just use the .284 brass I've been using to load for this cartridge so the bolt won't have to be modded. Extra powder capacity with a better case design then the .308 should be fun to play with.:)

The 7.5 Swiss would be an excellent choice. It is essentially a 30/284. Very close to an '06.
The 6.5 Carcano is nearly identical to the 6.5 MS so is a nice light recoiling rifle. There are those who think little of Carcanos from a quality standpoint but I know one guy who actually collected them!
Sadly, I have no rifles in either of these calibers so will have to make do with the 35 Whelen or the 7mm-08. I have vowed to leave my most successful rifle, a Lee Enfield in 30/40 Krag, in the closet this year but may cave in toward the end of the season. It is, after all, my lucky gun and that has to be taken into consideration. Regards, Bill

speaking of "lucky guns"..I'm seriously considering dusting off my 700 in 300 Winny this year...haven't carried if for three years.....and I haven't killed an elk for three years.......I've taken more game with it since '92 than all the other rifles I've ever carried combined....but I have to carry the 280AI and the Ti in 7-08 a bit too.....and I'll probably carry the Whelen a day or two....gotta use 'em...:)

I once had a Brno ZKK in 30/06. I liked the rifle and it was one of the most accurate hunting rifles I ever owned. I never killed a damn thing with it! Oh, I did kill a bear but I figure that's kind of a varmint so doesn't really count. Apart from that, I never even saw a shootable animal while carrying that rifle. I finally got rid of it since it was of no real use. The 7mm-08 I have is also bloodless. In fairness, I haven't carried it much so I figure I should give it a fair chance this year. Regards, Bill.
