Why short range moose but not elk? Very curious what your thoughts are.Hello, I just bought a 6.5 PRC savage 110 high country. So I am going to hand load 143 hornady ELD x.
It longe range caliber and it is good for hunting and target shooting.
It can easily take black bear, deer, elk and even short range moose.
Thank you for the advice! I’m pretty overwhelmed with all of the different options out there and trying to balance range, power, longevity, and price. But ultimately very excited to get into this hobby and comments like that are very helpful. Have a good oneI'm using 6.5PRC for hunting, depending on the cartridge or your reload you can take a moose out up to 500yrd. I haven't started reloading hunting rounds so I'm using factory hunting ammo.
Ie: Hornaday Hunter Precision 143gr EDL-X still has enough energy @ 1600ish ft-lbs vs. 6.5CM has about the same but at 300yrd ( a moose you don't really want under 1550 ft-lbs)
Most places I hunt moose are up to 400yrds, so it suits my needs. I used to hunt with a .300WSM that I gave to a new hunter in our group. Heh, you can also take out a moose with a 30-30, but gotta be close. Get what suits you and enjoy. Hunting caliber topics are the same as "what brand/type of oil should I put in my motorcycle".
In the end what you want is, know your rifle/the round your shooting with. Shoot it (not just 2-3 days before the hunt to make sure the scope is sighted correctly).
In the end, what matter is have fun with it and enjoy you time in the woodsEven if I don't get one, I enjoy the memories and the quality time spent with my group every seasons.
That's my 2¢
I have Both and the 6.5 PRC is a LOT more cartridge then the 6.5 CM is ! But in reality all it dies is add Distance .I’ve heard a lot about the 6.5 PRC vs Creedmoor debate. Anyone running PRC for hunting in Canada?
Anyone "getting into this hobby" has NO business attempting to take game at any distance over about 200 yds.Thank you for the advice!
