6.5 creedmoor

I'm looking at placing an order for a modern hunter, and I'm kind of stuck on a choice of round. I'm purchasing this rifle for a blend of hunting and to some extent precision. I hear a lot of good things about the 6.5 creedmoor, but i have worries about the lethality of the round verses larger game such as elk. I'm sure that a well placed shot is guaranteed to drop one, but my experience huntting is mostly with a 7mm rem mag, so my big worry is if it is a lethal enough round to be ethical.

The 7-08 might be a good choice as well....you will have a better choice of bullets weights for hunting....if .264 is the only choice I'd go 260 rem. because of brass choices.

What's the advantage of the 6.5 Creedmoor over the. 260 Rem? Aren't they almost identical?

Yes they are BUT you can seat the bullet out further in the Creedmoor allowing more powder capacity and maybe a bit more velocity and its just way KOOLER ! lol RJ

I shoot and handload for a Cooper Model 22 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I find it extremely accurate with low recoil. Hornady brass (at least mine) lasts quite well. I have reloaded my brass about 10 times before discarding, but even then the cases showed little evidence of deterioration. Creedmoor brass costs $2.00 more than .260 brass and $9.00 more than .308 brass (for 50 pieces) the other components are pretty standard.

The 6.5 Creedmoor should kill fine if you use decent bullets and make shot placement in the vitals. Very good BC's on it as well, so it has a lot of energy behind it at longer range. I actually just picked up a 6.5 in a Weatherby Vanguard with 4 boxes of Winchester 140 Gr Sierra Matchkings, can't wait to hit the range with it.
