6.5 Grendel flinger of choice?

don't be afraid of the finished weight, my stubby little ranches in chassis at 8 1/4 lbs when you throw the Harris 9-13 swivel bipod on gets to 9 lbs (before ammo) makes it an amazing experience actually shooting, 6.5 ft/lbs or less recoil energy and watching everything in the scope is amazing, it will be light enough regardless your optic/base/rings solution but more has it's benefits so don't choose your solutions based just on weights, you'll just see more in the scope with more weight, if you end up 7.5 lbs, expect about 2525 fps from hornady black then about 8.2 ft/lbs recoil, add 3/4 lb bipod and about 7.5 ft/lbs recoil, get to see lots happen in those ranges

Lol I choose all my "shooting solutions" based on weight. I have scoped rifles between 13lbs all the way down to sub 6lbs and they all have a different application.

I think that's what I meant, as in more is better from a shoot ability standpoint vs carry all day standpoint.....assuming that everyone is always chasing least amount of ounces possible on these lighter hitters. I hear ya, the more there is the easier and better we shoot them. I got a grendel that's under 5 lbs with a green dot, it shoots well too, but not as good as my chassis pork chop with a bipod on it lol. The both offhand and bipod well but each one excels at the opposite end of those spectrums. It's nice to start with a pretty light platform so you don't have to get all obsessive on optics/mounting solutions is all I'm suggesting for his new build.

Cool! Honestly wouldn't mind 8 lbs or a bit more full up. Holds steadier like that too. Thinking this one is gonna be about 7.4. Definitely not uber fixated on it.

With these lil rifles even the 20" heavy barrels cant be too bad

6-3/4 to 7-1/4lbs is my realm. As I age, that weight range suits my applications best.

Having said that.. I did lug around an 11lb 26” bbl all-in 700P for a day and a half this season. Thankfully it was strapped to the Pack while I crossed the cut to my watch but, It certainly isn’t something I’d wanna do on the daily through brush or if elevation gain/loss was involved, but doable in the open I suppose.

Nor do I see the appeal of todays “Long Range” setups that are in the same weight range of 9.5-10.5lb sans optics offered by manufacturers ie; Bergara B14 Wilderness Terrain/HMR.

Dang, props for hauling that beast all the same lol.

This one, according to the kitchen scale, is 7 lbs, 2 oz as shown with an empty mag and the Burris 4.5-14x42 scope in Weaver bases and 4 hole rings.

Sucker is light!

Not bad. Lighter rifles definitely get my attention these days.

Just for reference my Howa 7.62x39, 20" heavy barrel, plastic stock and Jefferson blind mag conversion weighs 7lbs 1oz with a Leupold VXII 2-7x33 in Talley Lightweights. The 450BM with the Jefferson hinged floorplate and Leupold VX3i 2.5-8x36 in Talley Lightweights weighs in at 6lbs 5oz. 16" barrel on the 450.

Both are empty mag weights.

That's what about an 11 oz scope and a 12.5 oz scope? They are pretty light to start off with for heavy barreled guns. Although having such a bigger hole down the barrel removes a lot more weight for the 450 BM don't it lol.

Here's this one with Weaver bases but no scope/rings. 5lbs, 14oz

Yeah somewhere around there for scope weights. I think the 7.62 heavy barrel and 450BM have the same outer diameter but yeah, the wall thickness on the 450 is significantly less lol. That and 4" shorter.

That's a nice looking wood stocked mini. I do like wood stocks but tend to gravitate towards synthetics for practical reasons. The Howa plastic stocks are pretty flimsy but they really fit me nice and the guns are more than accurate in them so good enough. I would like to try one of the carbon stalkers and see what they feel like though. The weight is very attractive to me.

Sounds like one of those things that just has to be tried!

the whole stock plastic bottom end is 3 oz, so is the Jefferson hinged kit fyi, it's a wash when you swap em out, no idea about the blind kit, mice nuts differences, just get the hinged, it's all win win with the hinged kit

3.0oz for the blind, 3.50z for the hinged so yeah basically the same as the factory mag set up but a million times better lol. Well, if you don't like detachable mags I guess. Otherwise it's worse?

my scale rounds to the nearest half oz, I think the Jefferson lists at 3.2...my scale showed them as identical at 3.0, they must be within about a 1/4 oz of each other as my scale can't tell them apart, I have all this in the house, the cz bottom end with a cz mag is a 7 1/2 oz option if anyone curious
