Anyone else have or know of a krag that is really tight to chamber a cartrige? I know of one that the cartrige will only slide down about 2/3 of the way and we were not sure if we should force it or not. It is suppose to be a 6.5x55. Could we have the wrong shell? We checked ands the bore is 6.5mm for sure. I looked online and it looks exactly like a norwegian krag with the fore-stock cut back. Also it is dated 1900 with a 4 digit serial#. The rifle is in OK to good shape with a rough stock. Any ideas what it would be worth? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(yes, I know my spelling sucks. I save my brain power for other things)

I have a couple and I haven't encountered that problem.

It may just have some dirt or something in the chamber. Try using a good chamber brush and give it a good scrubbing. Failing that, try loading a new clean cartridge into the chamber and then extract it and check the casing for scratches, etc.

That might tell you something.

I did clean it but not with a wire brush yet. I was concerned that it could be a 6.5x54, 53, or 52. I have done a bit or research and these don't seam to be very common in NA, and everyone tells me it has to be a 6.5x55 and nothing else. the boar does mic. at 6.5mm or .256in. I will try the brush and solvent.

The 6.5x52 (Mannlicher-Carcano) and the 6.5x53 or 54 (Mannlicher-Schoenauer) rounds are much smaller in diamter than the 6.5x55. I would not want to pull the trigger on either one if I were holding onto a classy old Norwegian Krag.

The 6.5x55 was the standard chamber for these rifles.

I would check the chamber really carefully. Good advice from friend PerversPepere; that is a definite possibility. Couple of years back, I pulled the front half of a .30-40 Krag case out of the chamber of a .303 Winchester Model 1895 which wouldn't chamber properly. ANYTHING is possible.

Sounds like a probable cause. I have never had anything like that happen to me before so I never thought to look that close at the inner chamber. It all looked clean enough but I'll break it down and inspect everything and let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the advise. Free advise is often worth more than you pay.

Wow guys, you were dead on with that one. I can't believe I didn't see that before. About half of the casing was stuck in there. I never saw that before. Took an hour but I got it out. It was pretty tight. I'm sure its been there for about 10 years. It was over an inch long. Time for a good cleaning, make sure everything is working right and take a few shots with it. Thanks again guys.

The krag shoots great. Funny how they will chamber properly when you remove the obstructions. I really like how it handles. Wish I could use it for coyotes this time of year. Some of you in other provinces are luckey. Nothing over .22 cal here.
Thanks again guys.
