6.5 PRC Build

yeah I went with a LA tikka magazine as the SAAMI spec length on the PRC round is 2.95" and the SA Tikka Mag is 2.86"

What is the comfortable range of this cartridge on big game? 6-700 yrds?

Thanks todd.
Looks like a neat project and your builds are always top shelf.
This is so close to the 6.5/284 but without the availability of Lapua brass. Mind you its shorter than the 6.5/284, but not short enough for a short action.
Thanks again for posting

Looks to be a 800 yd gun with the load posted. So that's not to bad. Are these your hand loads or factory numbers? The reason I ask is because the 300 Win Mag seems kind of slow compared to my 215 Berger load. I am faster at 300 yds than the load you posted at 200 yds. 300 yd velocity with 215 Berger out of my gun is 2590 fps. I always use 1800 fps as a benchmark as to how far I will shoot at game to ensure the bullet expands. I think the PRC will be a nice round. 800 yds gets you out there far enough that's for sure.

Ok men here's the finished product, built by Gary Flach, so far its a dream to shoulder and a very nice weight,

Defiance Rebel XM Action
Benchmark #1 contour 24" SS 1-8 twist, 5R Barrel
Wildcat Ultralight Stock, Palm swell and High Comb added, 13.5 LOP
Timney Calvin elite Trigger 2lbs
Zeiss V4 4-16x44 scope
Talley Low Lightweights
Black-Gold Gunkote

Looks very nice. How do you like the V4?

I really like the V4, my son and I both agree its much brighter than the Leupold VX6 HD 3-18x44, tracks really well, clarity is very good, my son did prefer the fineness of the Leupold crosshairs.

That rifle turned out very well!!

How does she shoot?

Thank you

Day 2 at the range and it shot a bit better today with the 143gr ELD-X, .35" at 100 yards and 1.2" at 300 yards, velocity was all close to the 2960 advertised by Hornady

The 147gr ELD-M wasn't as good, best group at 100 was 1" most 1.25", Velocity was as advertised all around the 2910FPS

My son Brad shooting the 6.5PRC

A shout out to Gary&Ebony Eakin at Bighorn Sales, thank you for all the help, great prices and excellent service

Dandy rifle! Really like the idea of the PRC.

I'm curious- Do you guys pull your front sling stud out for shooting over your front rest like that?
