6.5 projectiles,

I had awesome groups with

142 Gr SMK
Hornady Brass
H4350 42.8Gr (42.6Gr gave me almost same results so it looks like I found that accuracy node)
CCI 200
COAL 2.855” (juuuuust enough room in magazine)
At 300m 1” group

Berger VLD Hybrid 140 Gr
Lapua Brass
H4350 42.8 Gr AGAIN!
CCI BR4
COAL 2.857”
2832 ft/s average

Hitting steel at 560m was no problem.
First try after gong I hit a water bottle 500ml dead centre. I had to paint it orange so I could see it properly.
Shot at the gong again with two rounds left and they were touching.

I loaded up some
143 Gr ELDX
Lapua Brass
H4350
Federal SRP and I got very weird groups. What surprised me was that these projectiles were pulling hard to the left. At least 6” from the rest of ammo and reloads I was testing.
Even factory ammo was windage wise very close to my VLD and SMK reloads.
Best group at 200m was just under 1”. For hunting, it’s great but I’m thinking Barnes TTSX would do better.

I’m thinking about tying 142 Gr SMKs with Lapua brass and H4350 but there is a problem finding these.

Also we tested some Federal GMM 140 Gr and we were pleasantly surprised! Best factory ammo
in my opinion I’ve tried.

I just picked up some 4350 and I’ll start making loads tonight.
I played with some loads with h1000 with 150 smk’s and my best was .28 M.O.A. so far.
But for this I’ll be using h4350 with eld match 147 probably start with at 55 and work up to 58gr.
I’ll have a set coal of 2.972 for now anyways.

For some reason I never had luck with anything Hornady. Not with projectiles not factory ammo.
I tried Hornady VMax 53 Gr in my .223 and it was ok but nothing I’d be proud of. The only projectile that worked in my 1/9” .223 was 75Gr HPBT Match. I was able to hit tennis balls at 400m no problem. It was Remington 700 SPS Tactical with Magpul stock.
In my RPR 6,5 Creed I never had anything to write home about regarding Hornady projectiles.
You’ll like H4350 because it’s not as temperature sensitive as other powders. It’s very consistent and it burns relatively clean.

Yea that’s mostly why I decided to pick it up, heard lots of good talk about it anyways.

@iron cat Have you shot the Chinchagas recently? Dale has 140's in stock. I have some on order and will look at working up a load for matches.

The issues I see with the Chinchaga bullets is that they have a pretty low BC for their respective weight classes. Combined with the really long bearing surfaces of the bullets, I think it's going to be difficult to achieve any decent velocities with them.

Something like the Warner Flatlines or Badlands Precision's line of lathe turned solids will be much more ballistically efficient and capable, if you are looking for a premium bullet with high consistency.

Otherwise save your pennies and go with a jacketed bullet, that will have similar (or in a lot of cases better) BC and at a lot better price.

2832 FPS? How'd the brass look? Any signs of pressure?
