I like the idea of open sights on hunting rifle, I am also recoil sensative and there is caliber restriction in my area so i was thinking of chep used gun in this caliber. Trade-ex has a lot of sporterized sweedish mausers in this caliber, anyone out there has them? What are thel like are they like reliable/accurate?

Thanx.

6.5 sweds are very accurate and reliable, you would have no regrets. They are very low recoiling and comparable to a 270win for shooting without the recoil.

I think they are fine and great for someone looking for an inexpensive hunting rifle that covers most of the hunting that someone can do here in the east. I bought a few rifles from tradeex and still own one of them and they are all better than he could describe them.

No worries

evything I have read about tradex is very positive. most coments go somthing alone the lines of " the guy greatly over states any defects , so if it says dark shootable bore with a scratch on wood" the bore comes almost perfect and the scratch almost needs a magnifying glass to be seen.
you will love the 6.5 x 55 check out the free online ballistic sites , out after 300 yards it realy comes into its own. it just seems to retain speed like no other

Bought 5 from them-everything in excellent condition. The Husky's are the best value in hunting rifles on the market.I bought a choate stock to restock my 6.5x55-but didn't realise the floor plate screw was shorter-so Anthony got in touch with a gunsmith friend who sent me a replacement-free of charge.Thats service above and beyond

I would rather have swedish mauser over any other entry level rifle, I think they better than any stevens 200 or marlin xl7 or mossberg atr. I even a mauser thats a 100 years old is still a very good rifle. I can get 2600fps with 140gr out of my 6.5x55 and that will kill anything in side 250yds here in NB

Over the years, Tradex has treated me very well. I have a 96 in 6.5x55 that I purchased from them and was very pleased with the rifle. I got what they promised and better. In my case I was looking for a scoped rifle for deer and picked one without open sights. The smithing work done on it over the years is first class and it shoots excellent. You won't be disappointed.

I was just on their site, and theres only two 6.5s listed on the military page. They have lots of 7.5s though. They have a whole page of 6.5 "target" rifles if you are so inclined.
I have a 1913 (or '18, can't remember) Carl Gustov 6.5x55 Swedish "bush" rifle, (barrel cut to 19 inches). It does shoot ok but I don't use it enough to have gotten good with it. In that, I mean I did hit a steel gong at 300 yrds once on a breezy day after a bunch of shots. It may have been the ammo too, That SP "hunting" czech stuff in the white box. It wasn't the well known name brand commercial stuff.
I suppose I could get a scope on it again and start using it, but I have a couple of .308s that I enjoy.
My 6.5 did take a whitetail once but at a fairly short range. Funny too, I have dies, brass, powder, etc and the rifle just sits in my locker. :yingyang:

They're great rifles and Tradeex only imports and sells quality merchandise. Their service is solid - really nice people to deal with.

As stated above, they tend to slightly undergrade their product (Anthony's photography doesn't help ;))... Don't expect miracles but you will be pleased with what you get.

Every Swede I've bought has been undergraded. I own some very nice examples from them. They service is excellent!! You can't go wrong

Thanx all of you for your responses; I bought Walther P1 from trade-ex it was in good condition and accurate but shoot low, so I sold it.

What do they mean when thay say: dark shootable bore? One responder explained what that means for trade-ex, but what does this decription really means? Shoots but not very accuratly?

A bright, shiny bore has no corrosion. Dark bore can be due to accumulated grunge or pitting/corrosion from corrosive ammo and poor cleaning practices.

Normally I would say that a wise person would assume the worst case, but Anthony is old-school in terms of ethics and business practices.

You can get a really nice 6.5X55 from Anthony or about $200-$250,and pick up a nice fixed 4X LEOPOLD for about the same money and still have enough left over out of $500 for a couple of boxes of shells-and you're good to go for just about anything in North America.I bought a 9,3x57 in the same rifle just in case I run into a grizzly when moose hunting-286 gr privipartizans are reputed to hit like the hammer of Thor
