I picked up a box of Nosler custom 120g Balistic tip in 6.5 x 284, mainly for the brass. When I opened the box they looked awful short. I pulled out the calipers, they measure 2.890. That's a far cry from 3.228 as listed in all the manuals. Curiosity had me then and I checked the only other factory rounds I had 22-250 and 243, both those were right on the money. Why did Nosler load these so short?

Maybe they put the wrong rounds in the box? Happens sometimes. #### ups happen at the factory.

ETA: Pics of one of these rounds next to another 6.5x284 round?

Oh ya the pics... I forgot the pics

the 284 case was orignally loaded in a short action hence the length of the hornadys you bought. now lots of shooters build on long actions to maximize powder capacity. i believe there are two differnt oal for the 6.5 284.

the longer one is a 142 smk, I have some 130vld's that are only.005 shorter. I don't expect the 120 to be much less. I sent nosler an email this morning and they said they load them short so they fit in a short chamber.

Anyone think it will hurt to shoot them with that big of a jump?

What he said ! I have a .25/ 284 on a Sako AII action. The max overall length to fit in the magazine is just over 2.800
