The 300 Roy thread got me Wondering if any members on here took the plunge and bought a new Weatherby rifle chambered in the 6.5 x300 wby cartridge? I can't seem to find much reloading data on the cartridge, which is understandable because the cartridge is so new on a commercial level...apparently with the rifle sighted in bullseye @300 yards the bullet only drops 18.5"@500 yards :xes

Does anyone have the redesigned Mark V with the new LXX trigger? How does the new eurganomics of the stock compare to the Japan and Germany models?

Oh and before it is mentioned yes I'm aware the 6.5 x300 Roy will chew through barrels which I'm ok with.:ar15:

We played around with the 6.5 STW 20 years ago. Sort of concluded that there is only so
much powder you can reasonably shove down a 6.5 hole, and that a case that size should end at 7mm.

Sort of finding the same thing right now with the 6.5 and 7-300 Win.

Could also look into the 6.5 Sherman. Mine launches 140 bergers at 3339 fps out of a 28" Hart. Only uses 64 gr of N570. This is max in my rifle. Very impressive performance out of a 270 win parent case. Way better barrel life as well.

The 6.5-.300 Weatherby has existed as a wildcat for a very very long time; its listed in PO Ackley's book as the 6.5/.300 Weatherby-Write and as the 6.5/.300 Wright-Hoyer, and at one time held the 1000 yard match record back when shooting 7" groups at 1000 yards used to impress people. The cartridge demands very slow burning powders and minimum barrel lengths of 28", and longer is better for the kind of velocities one might expect from this cartridge. Loads mentioned include 84-87 grs of H-870 with velocities for a 139 gr bullet running from 3331 to 3591 fps from a 31" barrel.

I bought one in an accumark, The new trigger feels the same as the timney I installed in one of my other Mark V's Its set at about 3 pounds from yhe factory, Its favorite load at this point is a 127gr Barnes LRX with a federal 215 primer and us869. It will put 3 shots just under an inch at 300yards. I bought some hornady 143gr eld-x bullets and some 140 grain berger hunting vlds to try hopefully they shoot as well. I think the fit and finish is a bit better then on the previous models.

Thanks for the feedback....That's crazy accuracy @300 yards...Wow!...I'm glad you like the trigger...I actually have a Timney trigger in a 300 Weatherby Mark v deluxe and like it a lot.The gun is from the 1960's and the trigger went on it 2 years ago,it was warn out as the gun saw many hunts and days at the range...Thanks agin for the response...lots of people don't seem to own a new generation Mark v or a 6.5x300 for that matter.

Don't mean to spoil your fun, but my 270 wsm with 140 berger vld launched at 3200 FPS (which is what i'm getting with my loads) zeroed at 300 yards drops 23" @ 500 yards. That seems like a pile of work, more powder, money being the biggest and 1/2 the barrel life to save 5"....yes at 1000 it'll outshine it. But for real life hunting, i see 0 advantage to the 6.5-300 bee

Maybe I should just keep my 270 Wby Lazermark for hunting is what you are saying? ;)

I'd be the last guy to discourage anyone from buying another rifle; but Ive got a couple 270 Weatherbys that are doing 3500 with 130s already.

That's rocking!!! What type of powder...?

I'm curious about the new mark V's just as much as the new 6.5 Weatherby cartridge....have you seen a new generation mark v in hand yet? All I've seen are the pictures and it looks the same to me except for the profile of the new LXX trigger...

I'm actually more interested in the Vanguards getting 26" barrels. The 6.5-300 making it into the Vanguard line is interesting. Since I still have a .264 and 6.5-300 Win to shoot out I'm not overly stressed about getting a 6.5-300 'Bee but could easily be Accuguard level curious. I'm just not Mark 5 curious.

The 26" on the vanguard is big news which should encourage more sales...I love the looks of the new safari vanguard in 375 h&h open sights....I have to go With a mark v deluxe because it's a collection thing as much as a hunting thing.

I have this rifle on my radar right now! I own the 257 accumark and really like it. Hardly need the 6.5 but sure would like it!

The 6.5x300 Weatherby is a great cartridge. I've witnessed action at the rifle range with this cartridge, can't believe the accuracy and velocity it delivers. It does require a lot of gun powder, but once a load is developed, your good for a very long time...........like any other cartridge.
