6.5 x 47 lapua

Received the rifle & a box or reloads 140gr fmj I believe from my friend. Will get rest of reloading stuff later. Sadly I'm leaving town so won't get to do some shooting til next week. I did try this rifle before & loved it so I'm glad to try a new round & learn more about reloading etc. I can't post pics as my photobucket is screwed ... Can somebody post for me please??? (Send me email). Qujannamiik / thank you,

CM has great factory ammo support from Hornady.
260 is popular, avail in many rifles, Lapua brass, larger capacity. form from 243/308. CM is catching up quick.
Don't see any benefit in NA for the x47.

Both my CTR and SRS-A1 shot under 1/2" 5 shot groupings with 139 scenar, H4350.

Recall 6.5 barrel should last 3500 rounds so that is 35 reloads for 100 brass. That is a lot.
I went with the X47 just to be different. No one has one around here and the ballistics are so close to the 260 and Creed I figured why not. Plus guys are saying they have ran the original 100 brass to wear out a barrel! I'm sure the 260 and Creed are also great. I really don't think the X47 gets the recognition it deserves on threads. It always seems guys only ask about the 260 and the Creedmore.

Can we stick to 6.5 x 47 lapua please & thank you??!! I am posting so I may learn more from others on the rifle I have purchased. Cheers fellow CGNers,

Thank you kindly for posting the pic. My friend has a bunch of reloading components from lapua brass, magnum primers, reloader15 I think he said for powder & 140 gr fmj & some kind of scenar bullets to load(can't remember gr). The scope is an IOR.(will get details later when I look it over).

I was thinking lower rings right away ... Is this scope 30mm?(gotta google it as never seen one before). I'm headed to Winnipeg tonite until Sunday & am thinking of checking wholesale & Cabelas on reloading components. I believe Joeffrey said 123 scenars now that you posted. I'll have to look up what grain bullets are available I suppose. This calibre is all new to me so looking forward to shooting & testing ... Hopefully soon although it's like -50 with windchill. Hahaha.

Performance wise the x47 should be very close to 260/6.5CM till you push the limit thus my reason for posting here. Got good results with 139 scenar and H4350 in 260Rem, expect you will too with x47. But since you only want x47 my last post here. Have fun and good luck finding info on x47.

Ive read that the 123 scenars are very good . I don't believe you necessarily need Mag primers though. I got a 20 inch barrel going on mine and was researching what powder to use,to gain back the FPS, I'll be losing.
RL 15 is what I came up with.
But for now ,all I got is Varget.

And your welcome, no trouble at all.

Edit: That scope looks to be 34 mm, maybe it's just the pic.
Grab a tape and measure it.

Save your money, dont bother buying new rings. That scope wont last long enough to justify the cost.
Sorry to say it but if thats an IOR 3-18x42 theres a high likelyhood it will fail. Particulary in extreme cold.
A buddy has one that imploded when shooting in about -15C. The failures on that model (3-18x) are well documented.

FFIW I believe that model uses 35mm rings.

There are a few articles online detailing the pros/cons of .260 vs 6.5cm vs 6.5x47L. The consensus is that the performance is so close as to make a wash of which chambering you choose. They all have Lapua brass now. Advantages to the x47L as I understand them are a shorter COAL than .260 or 6.5cm making it easier to chase the lands while still feeding reliably from a mag (shortest COAL to longest goes x47L-6.5cm-.260), the angle of the case shoulder also causes the case to stretch less therefore making trimming a rare occurence and the small primer pocket makes the case able to withstand higher pressures. The x47L is also apparently an "inherently accurate cartridge" and thus not very fiddly in terms of finding a good, accurate load. Again, the differences between the 3 are minimal, they all do the trick.

Marcoman I googled it & 35mm is the ring size. As for the scope failing that's not what I wanted to hear hahaha shhhite! Now what grain bullets can I put thru this rifle? I'm googling and so far 120 gr -140 gr bullets for reloading???

Hey Jay,

I sincerely hope you have great results with the IOR. Depending on what generation it is you may be fine. I think early Gen models were the most problematic. Congrats on a fine looking setup!
Depending on your requirements for the gun it would be hard to argue with 123gr. Scenars in the 6.5x47.

Cheers!

Sierra just released 130TMK's - they may be worth giving a try - Berger hybrid 130 is also a very popular and accurate bullet.
X-reload is your friend...
