6.5 x 47 lapua

Mine likes the 130 gr Berger hunting with CCI 450, Lapua brass and H4350. In all honesty it is the only load I have tried. Don't think I could improve on it so why try. Will you be hunting with this X47? From what I have read the Scenar bullets have a tendency to pencil through game. This may not be true but something to consider. As far as getting supplies in Winnipeg, good luck. I would go to Wholesale sports first as Cabelas never has anything. Bullet selection really depends on what you are going to be shooting. Paper then anything. Hunting then it depends if the shots will be close or far. Sorry if I missed the intended use of this rifle.
 
Mine has worked great with 123 scenars and a-max. Every powder I tried worked well. Rl15, varget, h4350 inr4320, and imr4451. Mag primers seem to hold the high pressure of this case better. I had cratered primers with cci400s, but every rifle will vary. I have close to 4000 rounds through mine and it still shoots great. Best part is I have 30 firings on most of my brass and the primers are still tight.
 
I use N150 in my f-class rifle. Get 2780 with 140gr hybrids. Mild load but ES is single digits. Very cool burning, and clean too. I only shoot it during the summer, so not concerned about temp changes.
 
Have a SSG with Benchmark 8 twist that I am working with the 136 Scenar and 550. Still in the early development, but hoping to find something with this combo. Also have tried the 140 chinchaga's as well. They all look good, just need to find that low SD
 
Ok my friend is away for work & upon his return will bring me the dies, bullets he has, some reloader15 & brass, primers. I have varget powder which we will try in some reloads & test. As for the scope he used it in the cold but not this -40 to -50 February & March weather so who knows. As for bullets he has I believe he said 123 scenars & 140 fmj. I will have to google where is best to order more brass & bullets. The more I look the rifle over & the handful of bullets he gave me the more I wanna shoot ... Alas we're almost in a blizzard so no can do. Hahaha. Thanks for replies, suggestions & info. Cheers,

I've got a 6.5x47 in the works for this season's PRS, and have started stockpiling the Lapua Scenar 136 OTM, as a Berger alternative. Load looks like its going to be V150 or H4350, CCI 450 Primers. I'm looking to get 2900fps as a base for Node development. Barrel is a 1:8 26" JC Custom Stainless.

My questions for the other reloaders here, are:

1) what's your Virgin Brass Prep process?

2) should I even consider doing a ladder test with new brass to find a load, or just go with an existing safe load for fire forming, then use the once fired for more accurate load building?
 
I've just started load deveolpment for a new 6.5x47 Lapua
My format using new LAPUA brass ...started by lightly deburring the necks inside/outside.
Each brass is run through the FL competition bushing die (without lube).
Loaded 450 primers, 130 Berger VLD, did a ladder test with both H4350 and Varget
Found that the bullet likes to be close to lands...
Velocity with my 24"x#4 Krieger is from 2800-2825 fps for tighest grouping
No pressure signs on the brass or stiff bolt lift.
 
Going through the process myself - what I am doing is quite simple: I have 200 pieces of virgin Lapua brass and I am working my way through them with a known quality (safe) load of 42.0g of H4350 pushing the Lapua 123 Scenar ( I have played for 20 rounds with a load using Varget and teased myself for another 10 with a load of 42.2 H4350 ).

I am doing this so that I end up with 200 pieces of fire-formed brass from which I will then fine-tune a load though, in all honesty, since I am getting half-minute groups with the 42g H4350 load I may just load up and shoot rather than fiddle about further.
 
Tomochan, are you keeping track of your mv? I'd be curious to hear at what round count it speeds up. I've always heard that 150-200 is the magic number, depending on the barrel, of course.

2900fps with a 26'' barrel and 136 gr bullet... That seems improbable. I could be wrong!

Nope - right now ( based on comeups from 100m thru 400m ) she is looking slow but, like you I've heard that it will change after about 150 and so with only 120 fired I've not yet bothered to chrony. I figure I will run a few over the chrony next week as I work my way thru the next 50 rounds or so.
 
Mine probably picked up around 50-75 fps after the first 100 rounds. 130 Berger at 3000 fps out of a 26" Broughton. Your load for the 123 gr can't be that slow. I'm running 42.2 gr of H4350 with the 130 gr. Drops confirmed out to 910 yds.
 
Interestingly my load corresponds exactly to the factory load available from Lapua - according to the numbers on the Lapua ballistic calculator. Regardless, I am pleased with initial results; sub half minute when fire-forming can't be complained about :)
 
i was getting "powder crush" using 41.0 plus weights of H4350 so made myself a 14" powder drop tube.
My pleminary testing shows that 38.0 grains VARGET doesn't "crush" and produces equal velocity to 41.0 H4350
This is with 130Berger VLD's
Varget is showing low SD and accuracy is very good... will be doing more testing... still shooting virgin brass...
