I finally have gathered all my parts for a 6.5mm build:

- Boyd's Laminate Thumbhole Stock
- Shilen 6.5mm #7HB barrel blank
- Jewell Trigger
- Remington 700 SS Short Action (taken from a brand new 7mm-08)
- Sightron 8-32x56 LRMOA scope

These parts are all in a box under my reloading bench until I decide what build I want to do. I'm thinking 6.5 Creedmoor, but my buddy says 6.5x47 Lapua. Any 6.5mm Creedmoor owners there wish to comment?

The Creedmores only claim to fame is the ease of feeding from standard 308 length mags. But it has proven popular enough to have factory rifles made. Brass is hrn only at this time but you can likely make it from 22-250 brass.

The Lapua works too but gives up some case volume that may be nice with the heavier bullets. Watch the mag just in case the shorter length causes feeding issues????

260Rem works with all bullets. The heavies get seated a bit deeper then ideal but certainly does not affect end result.

Creedmore and 260Rem end up being the same/similar in performance. The 260Rem can be made to exceed the performance of either the Creedmore or Lapua.

Lapua can get close to the larger cases in performance but must do so at higher pressures.

As for accuracy, they all shoot the same.

I`ve been contemplating a 6.5 build in the near future and if you throw the 6.5x284 and 6.5x55 into the mix it gets even more messy. Not a huge velocity difference or advantage for one over the other. Then if you use a long action the 6.5-06 can come and play as well. A fellow can get a headache trying to decide which way to go, or build them all. SWMBO would love that last option.

any of the 6.5 cartridges would be a good choice.. I've shot the 260 and the 6.5 x 284 hard and like them both.. the 6.5 x 284 ( should use a long action ) is harder on barrels than the other 6.5's but it'll sure get it done at long range..

Yes, my shooting partner has a 6.5mm x 284 and it seems to be a bit of a barrel burner. He also has a 6.5x47 that shoots real nice.

I did some reading on the 6.5 Creedmoor and it seems to be a caliber that is becoming quite popular. As far as I can see, Ruger and Savage are the only manufacturers of this rifle.

I have three 6.5's that should all shape up to be pretty nice rifles.

6.5x47 Lapua - shoots really nice and super accurate (built as a heavy barreled target gun)

260 Remington - single shot Ruger #1 (just waiting to finish the stock before I get it out shooting)

6.5 Creedmoor - chambered the barrel last week and just need to cut and crown it tonight. Once my dies show up, I'll be out shooting it ASAP

I have the dies and brass for the 6.5 Creedmoor already. Did you make your own brass or did you buy Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor brass?

I bought 4 boxes of Hornady brass.

All the metal work is done on my rifle (except for a quick bead blast of the barrel).

Time for me to get at the stock so it'll be ready to shoot once my dies show up.

Where did you get your dies? The only place I could find them was Sinclair. I bought 2 boxes of brass from Jerry at Mystic Precision.

I'm considering getting H. Rempel to build the rifle, provided he can accommodate me.

I ordered my brass and dies from Marcus at the Shooting Center. They get the Hornady stuff from the Korth Group in Okotoks.

I'm still waiting on my dies to show up.

Hard to go wrong with a 260 rem imo I have not seen one that would not shoot.

Im working on one of those as well.
